When youre boondocking a lot, finding free dump stations becomes a bit of a treasure hunt. Paid dump stations at campgrounds typically charge $10-25 which adds up fast if youre dumping every few days.
After three years of full-time RVing on a budget heres my system for finding free dumps.
Apps That Work
Sanidumps.com — this is my go-to. Its a database of dump stations across the US and Canada with user reviews and directions. You can filter by free, cost, and location. The info is usually accurate though I always check the dates on reviews to make sure nothing has changed.
iOverlander — originally designed for overlanding but has dump station listings. The international coverage is excellent if youre heading into Canada or Mexico.

Free Dump Station Sources
Many Walmart stores have dump stations in their parking lots. Not all of them but more than you'd expect. Usually free or a couple dollars.
Flying J and Loves truck stops often have dump stations. Some charge a small fee but if youre filling up on diesel anyway its convenient.
City and county parks sometimes have public dump stations. Especially in areas with a lot of RV traffic. These are often free to residents and cheap for visitors.
National Forest campgrounds — many have dump stations even if you're not staying at the campground. Usually free.
Pro Tips
Always carry a sewer hose thats long enough. Some dump station access points are awkwardly placed. I carry a 20-foot hose plus a 10-foot extension just in case.
Plan your dumps around your travel route. We dump every 4-5 days and I plot our stops in advance so were never scrambling.
Its not glamourous but saving $15-25 per dump adds up to hundreds of dollars a year. And thats money better spent on campfires and cold ones.

Our travel trailer is our escape from the work week. These tips make it better.
My van setup is similar. Works great for one person tbh.
This is spot on. We tell every new RVer the same thing.
