Our Michigan based family of six stayed at the campground over Christmas break. We love to stay at state parks in Michigan and were hoping for a similar experience in Alabama. We love to stay at state parks in Michigan and were hoping for a similar experience in Alabama. I’d say it was close to 80% retirees with very few children- which was fine for the most part. It did seem like tolerance for kids was about 50% with a general crankiness level. Some seemed to have a scowl on their faces when we passed or said hello. The bike trails were great and the park was kept in great shape with its pickleball courts, and bath houses. The park beaches and beach facilities were beautiful, as well as the pier. The nature center was awesome. On our trip down to Alabama, we spoke with someone who mentioned the state parks had increased their prices not long ago. Probably a reflection of that- but all of the campers seemed to be in tip top shape. We booked this state park due to its heated pool. With kids ages 1, 3, 5 and 9, swimming is a huge part of our vacations. Upon arriving, the pool was 64 degrees. We figured this was due to cold nights, and several park staff members confirmed this on separate occasions. On our third or fourth day there, we finally spoke to a staff member who told us that a pipe had broken and the heater wasn’t working, apparently the plumber was not answering. My kids still took quick dips in the pool, but it did not last long because they were so cold. I’m not sure if it was lack of communication or transparency, but I would have appreciated knowing that the heater wasn’t working. I probably would have booked another campground, or moved us somewhere else. Of note, our campsite had multiple fire ant hills, which I realize are a part of life here. Giving a rating of 3/5 for the campground due to generally heightened crankiness level of campers, and lack of communication regarding the pool heater being broken.

Great place to take the family!! We booked a cottage on the lake for the week and had a blast!! The service is top notch - great breakfast every morning was included, they refilled our firewood each day for that nights' campfire fun, fishing off the dock was fruitful and seeing all the wildlife was just a huge cherry on top!! Will definitely be back!!

We stayed in spot FF3 which is nestled up to the creek at the bottom of the canyon. The mini hike up to the cars was such an amazing calf and glute workout I didn't miss the gym at all. Saturday night it poured rain and the tent kept us safe and dry. They have firewood you can buy on site for reasonable prices, as well as any necessities you may have forgotten. They also have different activities for the different nights of the weekend -- Friday is hot tub night and Saturday is for the sauna. Everyone that stayed on site that my group interacted with was so kind, friendly and welcoming. We will definitely plan to stay again next time we're in town. Such a lovely, peace filled place to rejuvenate your mind & soul.

This park is wonderful. The sites are spacious and easy to access. The campground was nearly full when we were there the second week in June, but it didn't feel overcrowded. Our site was in the middle of the campground, and this gave us easy access to the pool, the lake, and the beach. The entire area is extremely well maintained and clean. The bathhouse was updated, very clean, and plenty of water pressure for a shower. We ended up adding an additional night, but we had to move sites as ours wasn't available. The campground manager allowed us to move to the new site as soon as the previous tenants left which gave us more time at the beach. The bike and walking paths and trails are beautiful, and our ride to the beach was less than 2 miles. This was our first beach trip in our camper, so the bar has been set pretty high for future trips.

First off, Dustin Parks is a genuinely friendly, straightforward guy who makes everyone feel welcome. But what really sets this place apart is what Dustin has created it’s so much more than just a campsite in the woods. Deep in beautiful, secluded forest, Dustin has built a true sanctuary a place where you can disconnect from daily life, turn off your phone, and reconnect with yourself, nature, and other people on a real, human level. The campsites are spread out so you can enjoy total privacy, or gather in the common areas to share stories and laughter. It’s a very clothing-optional place, which I embraced fully. I discovered it’s not at all what people might imagine it’s freeing, natural, and equalizing. When you’re there, you realize how unnecessary judgment is we’re all just people, stripped of status and pretense, able to truly see and hear each other. Dustin didn’t just set up tents in the woods he created an experience, an awakening. He’s made it possible for people to step into an enchanted forest with creeks, swimming holes, and breathtaking trails, and feel the earth’s energy exactly as nature intended. I met amazing people within the first hour real connections that felt instant and genuine. I brought only minimal camping gear, food, and drinks everything else I needed was provided. Just be ready: the retreat is on top of a mountain, and some of the sleep sites are down steep paths your legs will get a workout! The only sad part was leaving putting clothes back on felt like losing a little piece of freedom. It’s that same bittersweet feeling as leaving the beach, but deeper because here you realize we’re all the same at heart. No judgment, just kindness. Dustin has created more than a getaway he’s built a safe haven where you can truly be yourself, reconnect with nature, and remember what really matters. I won’t just revisit I’ll be making contributions to help ParksLand Retreat grow. Go careless, go open-minded, and let yourself be free.

We parked across the highway at the beach. It was $10 for the day. We walked across the pedestrian bridge that goes over the highway. That was pretty cool. Then there was a long elevated board walk that we traversed before crossing a bridge over the canal into the campground. Miles of cleared trails through wooded and marshy areas. Very nice place to visit, it was a cloudy rainy day in early March... We parked across the highway at the beach. It was $10 for the day. Very nice place to visit, it was a cloudy rainy day in early March. I would love to go back during summer! Only real complaint was a lack of trash receptacles, even in the campground. I've heard this is a good place to see gators, and it is not uncommon to see venomous snakes.

The retreat itself is absolutely beautiful, offering something for everyone. Whether you're looking for a peaceful spot to meditate, a scenic trail for a hike, or a cozy nook to read a book, Parksland has it all. What truly sets Parksland Retreat apart is the atmosphere. It's the most welcoming and accepting retreat I've probably ever been to. The vibes are simply fantastic; love and kindness are felt in every corner of the property. Even though I was only there on a day pass, the experience was so enriching that I am already eagerly looking forward to my next visit when I can stay the night and fully immerse myself in the serene environment. If you're searching for a place where you can relax, rejuvenate, and feel genuinely accepted, look no further than Parksland Retreat. Dustin has created a magical space that leaves a lasting impression. I can’t wait to go back!

Stayed in Creekbend campsite which had a gorgeous rock wall on the creek. This place was magical, awesome laid back vibe, hiking and an awesome swimming hole. The hike from the car to campsite is steep but I needed the workout. Worth every step.

Great overnight stop for us! Made our same day reservation with very friendly staff, entered after hours and picked up our site packet at the office building. Easy, level concrete pad to park on in FHU pull through site. Well kept park, clean and quiet. Will definitely stay again during our travels through Alabama!

They are quick to resolve any maintenance requests & extremely friendly at the office, it’s the kind of place that once you walk in it immediately feels like home. I have been staying here for over a year with my partner and we’ve enjoyed every second of it. The location is super convenient 10 minutes to university & 40 minutes to Montgomery!! We love going to the pool, attending the events, going on walks around the pond and trails, fishing the ponds, and sometimes we will ride bikes around the trails! There is a large selection of lots and if you aren’t happy with where you are the staff is very friendly and quick to move you somewhere more to your enjoyment. They are planning on adding a community garden and we are very excited for it!!! 10/10 place!!

The park is very pretty with two ponds. It is very quiet and all the campers have been very friendly. One of my favorite parts that I found near the end of my semester is that Deer Run has a social room that you can host events or just use the oven. One slight inconvenience is the wifi only really works at the bathhouse.
