Nestled in the scenic foothills of northeastern Alabama, DeSoto State Park near Fort Payne offers RV campers an extraordinary gateway to natural beauty and outdoor recreation. This 5,000-acre park sits at the edge of the Little River Canyon, one of the deepest canyons east of the Mississippi River, creating a dramatic backdrop for your camping adventure. The park's 94 sites provide comfortable bases for exploring one of Alabama's most spectacular natural treasures.

The landscape here is genuinely breathtaking. Towering sandstone cliffs frame the Little River as it winds through the canyon, and the surrounding forests burst with color during fall and spring. Waterfall enthusiasts will find themselves in paradise, with DeSoto Falls being the crown jewel, but numerous other cascades reward those willing to explore the park's extensive trail system. The main waterfall drops 104 feet and is accessible via a relatively easy hiking trail, making it perfect for visitors of varying fitness levels. Beyond the falls, over 20 miles of marked hiking trails thread through the park, offering everything from peaceful nature walks to more challenging adventures.

For those who fish, the Little River provides excellent opportunities for smallmouth bass and other freshwater species. The park's boat ramp makes accessing the river convenient, whether you're bringing your own vessel or planning to wade and fish from the banks. The calm waters in certain sections are also ideal for kayaking and peaceful floating during warmer months.

The practical amenities here support extended stays perfectly. Full dump stations mean your RV is well-maintained throughout your visit. Shower facilities and modern restrooms provide comfort, while picnic tables and fire rings at each site create cozy gathering spaces for evening relaxation. Pet-friendly policies mean your furry traveling companions can join the adventure, making this an excellent choice for families with animals.

We had almost nonexistent service for our T mobil and Verizon. It has cable at all sights with a lot of channels all very clear digital. They have both pull through and back in sites. Most are pretty level with a lot of space between sites. Our site was number 55 which is a pull through. We have a 40 foot coach and it leveled nicely on thr asphalt pad. After setting up we had 30 feet behind our coach and 48 feet in front of it. We had 48 feet between pads. In the morning and evening there were deer everywhere. It gives you easy access to the DeSoto Falls and Little River Canyon. There are a lot of hiking trails. Definity a great spot to camp with children and pets. The lodge has excellent food at reasonable prices.

What a wonderful campground! I think this is one of my top favorite campgrounds!! The staff was friendly, the fellow campers were friendly! So many things to do!! The only thing negative I could say about this was just the roads getting in and out we were very scary and challenging pulling a camper.

Great campground full hookups. Big spots, good Verizon and T Mobile service. Some spots have a big step between the road and the spot itself, some are very steep to back into. But most of the spots are nice wide and spacious. Very quiet and well maintained.

Very nice, clean campground with full hookups and paved sites. Some of the pull-through sites were very unlevel from front to back so a lot of adjustments had to be made to try to get it level. So it might be a good idea to call and see if you can get one of the more level sites. Nice and shaded with lots of hiking and small waterfalls nearby. They do have laundry facilities but it’s coin-operate... Very nice, clean campground with full hookups and paved sites.
