This place is an amazing hidden gem! The grounds and facilities are pristine and Margo was the most attentive host. Our cabin had a flushing toilet and the coldest, freshest tap water. Showers were hot and the kitchen was well equipped. We loved the flexibility of cooking ourselves and the grocery store in town had a great variety of food and the friendliest staff. There were plenty of games... This place is an amazing hidden gem! The grounds and facilities are pristine and Margo was the most attentive host. There were plenty of games and movies for relaxing evenings and every imaginable activity picked up right from the parking lot. We were able to fish, visit Brooke’s Falls by plane, and tour King Salmon with helpful suggestions from the staff and fellow travelers along the way. We hope to visit again soon!

If you’re going to Brooks Falls to see the bears or going fishing, Bear Trail Cabins is a great place to call home while you’re in King Salmon. It starts with the host and proprietor: Margo. There is a reason everyone starts their review by talking about her. Margo rivals concierges at some of the world’s best hotels, but better: she treats you like family. It starts with the host and proprietor: Margo. There is a reason everyone starts their review by talking about her. Margo rivals concierges at some of the world’s best hotels, but better: she treats you like family. She is super organized, kind and clearly loves the life she has built with her husband, pilot extraordinaire Sam. The property is immaculate, right down to the manicured lawn and the communal Kitchen Cabin. It has a rustic charm you hope for when staying in a place inaccessible by roads. If you need to stay connected, the property has Starlink that works great from the cabins. Most of the cabins have bathrooms. Two cabins, 5 & 6, use the Bath House that is about 50 steps from the cabin’s door. We stayed in Cabin 5 and I was a little worried about walking to the bathroom in the middle of the night — but it turned out to be super easy: it stays light all night in the summer, so no big deal to walk a few yards to use the Bath House. The communal Kitchen Cabin turned out to be a great place to informally meet other people staying at the property. When you land Margo will offer a stop at the grocery store. Margo also does a couple of restaurant runs at night, including drop off and pick up, although we chose to walk back one beautiful evening. If you’re going to Katmai National Park to see the bears, I’d highly recommend one of Margo’s partners: Katmai Expeditions. Our guide was invaluable for making sure we got our names on the waiting list for the Brooks Falls platform, providing a ton of information about the bears and salmon— and knowing what to do when a young bear joined us on the beach while we were waiting for our seaplane.

Our family had a fantastic stay at Bear Trail Cabins in June of 2025! This was our 'home base' heading out to Katmai National Park and it worked out very well us. Not only did she communicate every part of the way leading up to our visit, but once we where there she... Our family had a fantastic stay at Bear Trail Cabins in June of 2025! From before we arrived in King Salmon to when we left, she was wonderful. Not only did she communicate every part of the way leading up to our visit, but once we where there she went WAY above any beyond with her kindness and generosity. Including use of bear spray, her extra car, sites to visit, maps, etc. The accommodations were ideal for King Salmon, on private and very well kept grounds. The community kitchen, DVD library and lawn games were all a plus too. A desirably rustic Alaska experience that we would highly recommend!

Margo is an exceptional host who truly goes above and beyond. She picked us up from the airport, took us by the grocery store, and made sure we had everything we needed before heading to the campground. We only stayed one night due to flight schedules, but Margo even offered to drive us to Katmai Air to see if we could catch a last-minute flight to make our campground reservation. While it didn’t... While it didn’t work out, her effort meant a lot—and honestly, staying at Bear Trail Cabins ended up being one of the highlights of our trip. Margo’s hospitality was unmatched, and if we ever find ourselves in King Salmon again, we’ll absolutely stay with her.

We stayed one night at the Bear Trail Cabins and absolutely loved it! We got cabin 3 which is very spacious and clean. It has two bunkers and one queen bed. Bedding was very comfortable. The decorations added lots of charm. They offer free starlink WiFi which worked surprisingly well. The owner Margo and Sam were super nice people. Sam did the dinner runs to the restaurant in town. We could hang out in the common kitchen after checkout and before Margo dropped off us at the airport. The common kitchen was well equipped and also had many board games and dvds. A very good base to stay at to visit Katmai. Highly recommend!
