About NELLIE MARTIN RIVER CABIN

Federal campground in Alaska.

Nestled in the heart of Alaska's pristine wilderness, Nellie Martin River Cabin offers an unparalleled escape into one of North America's most spectacular natural landscapes. This national forest location provides RV travelers with authentic access to the raw beauty and adventure that defines the Last Frontier, delivering an experience that far exceeds typical campground stays.

The setting itself is nothing short of extraordinary. Surrounded by towering spruce and hemlock forests, the cabin sits near the Nellie Martin River, where the soothing sounds of flowing water become your constant companion. The landscape showcases Alaska's dramatic terrain, with distant mountains visible through the trees and wildlife corridors that make every moment feel like a genuine wilderness immersion. The area's pristine air and unspoiled environment create an atmosphere of complete tranquility that's increasingly difficult to find anywhere else.

For outdoor enthusiasts, this location opens doors to countless recreational opportunities. The river nearby offers excellent fishing prospects, attracting anglers seeking trophy catches in pristine waters. Hiking trails wind through the surrounding forest, revealing hidden vistas and opportunities for wildlife observation. Birdwatchers will find themselves delighted by the variety of species, while photographers will discover endless subject matter from sunrise to sunset. The national forest setting means you're truly immersed in nature, far from development and commercial intrusions.

This destination appeals strongly to travelers seeking genuine wilderness experiences rather than conventional campground amenities. Retirees looking to explore Alaska's remote regions find the setting particularly rewarding, as do families wanting to introduce children to backcountry camping. Adventurers, nature lovers, and anyone seeking solitude and natural beauty will discover that Nellie Martin River Cabin delivers exactly what they're searching for.

The isolation that makes this location special also means you should come prepared and self-sufficient. The national forest setting requires travelers to embrace a more rustic camping philosophy, but the reward is access to some of Alaska's most unspoiled territory. Visitors consistently praise the transformative quality of staying here, often describing the experience as life-changing. Whether you're seeking a peaceful retreat, an adventure base camp, or simply a chance to disconnect and reconnect with nature, Nellie Martin River Cabin represents an authentic Alaskan wilderness experience that will remain memorable for years.

This place is an amazing hidden gem! The grounds and facilities are pristine and Margo was the most attentive host. Our cabin had a flushing toilet and the coldest, freshest tap water. Showers were hot and the kitchen was well equipped. We loved the flexibility of cooking ourselves and the grocery store in town had a great variety of food and the friendliest staff. There were plenty of games... This place is an amazing hidden gem! The grounds and facilities are pristine and Margo was the most attentive host. We were able to fish, visit Brooke’s Falls by plane, and tour King Salmon with helpful suggestions from the staff and fellow travelers along the way. We hope to visit again soon!

If you’re going to Brooks Falls to see the bears or going fishing, Bear Trail Cabins is a great place to call home while you’re in King Salmon. It starts with the host and proprietor: Margo. There is a reason everyone starts their review by talking about her. Margo rivals concierges at some of the world’s best hotels, but better: she treats you like family. It starts with the host and proprietor: Margo. There is a reason everyone starts their review by talking about her. Margo rivals concierges at some of the world’s best hotels, but better: she treats you like family. She is super organized, kind and clearly loves the life she has built with her husband, pilot extraordinaire Sam. The property is immaculate, right down to the manicured lawn and the communal Kitchen Cabin. It has a rustic charm you hope for when staying in a place inaccessible by roads. If you need to stay connected, the property has Starlink that works great from the cabins. Most of the cabins have bathrooms. Two cabins, 5 & 6, use the Bath House that is about 50 steps from the cabin’s door. We stayed in Cabin 5 and I was a little worried about walking to the bathroom in the middle of the night — but it turned out to be super easy: it stays light all night in the summer, so no big deal to walk a few yards to use the Bath House. The communal Kitchen Cabin turned out to be a great place to informally meet other people staying at the property. When you land Margo will offer a stop at the grocery store. Margo also does a couple of restaurant runs at night, including drop off and pick up, although we chose to walk back one beautiful evening. If you’re going to Katmai National Park to see the bears, I’d highly recommend one of Margo’s partners: Katmai Expeditions. Our guide was invaluable for making sure we got our names on the waiting list for the Brooks Falls platform, providing a ton of information about the bears and salmon— and knowing what to do when a young bear joined us on the beach while we were waiting for our seaplane.

Not only did she communicate every part of the way leading up to our visit, but once we where there she went WAY above any beyond with her kindness and generosity. Including use of bear spray, her extra car, sites to visit, maps, etc. The accommodations were ideal for King Salmon, on private and very well kept grounds. The community kitchen, DVD library and lawn games were all a plus too. A desirably rustic Alaska experience that we would highly recommend!

Margo is an exceptional host who truly goes above and beyond. She picked us up from the airport, took us by the grocery store, and made sure we had everything we needed before heading to the campground. We only stayed one night due to flight schedules, but Margo even offered to drive us to Katmai Air to see if we could catch a last-minute flight to make our campground reservation. While it didn’t... Margo’s hospitality was unmatched, and if we ever find ourselves in King Salmon again, we’ll absolutely stay with her.
