We arrived by train, hiked in a little over a mile with a ton of gear, and set up camp. The group campsites include potable water, picnic tables, bear boxes, and a pit toilet. They are also very close to the lake. We rented pack rafts, life jackets, and paddles from Alaska Outdoor Gear Rental in Anchorage. They were amazing to work with and provided quality gear and reasonable prices. The hike from the train to the lake and campground is a little over a mile . The trail is very flat and well-groomed. Although we wish we had rented a wagon (also available at AOGR and $20 baggage fee for the train). There were a few good places to launch the rafts on the lake. It took us about 20 minutes to get them fully inflated and ready to go. We watched a video in advance of our trip to learn about inflating these pack rafts. Then we spent the entire morning paddling toward the glacier and in between icebergs. We even had a sunny day! We definitely recommend the overnight option to Spencer Glacier. It gave us lots of time for paddling and plenty of time to get our gear back for the return train. We returned our rafts after we arrived back in Anchorage on the train.

Overall experience is pretty good. The train ride was soothing. The view was not very special after seeing Alaska's glacier and mountains for 3 days. Initially wantes kayak but we have young kids so we did the float. The tour was ok. Kind of boring after 2 hours. We cannot actually have the float right underneath a glacier ice or go too close to it, because there is rarely a big mushroom kind shape of ice to get underneath. I'd say its worth a half day tour but not very active for passengers to sit on a float for 2+ hours

Such an amazing glacier. About 3 miles round-trip and each step to and from the glacier with leave you breathless. The whole path is a smooth gravel path and relatively flat. A must see!
