About Bartlett Cove Campground

Federal campground in Alaska.

Nestled in the heart of Glacier Bay National Park, Bartlett Cove Campground offers RV travelers an unparalleled Alaskan wilderness experience. This remote coastal destination provides direct access to one of America's most pristine and awe-inspiring natural landscapes, where tidewater glaciers, temperate rainforests, and abundant wildlife create an unforgettable adventure.

Located in Southeast Alaska near the town of Juneau, Bartlett Cove serves as the primary gateway to Glacier Bay National Park. The campground's location on the shores of Bartlett Cove itself means you'll wake up to views of the North Pacific and the dramatic glacier-carved mountains that define this region. The setting is quintessentially Alaskan—rugged, beautiful, and genuinely wild. This is a destination for travelers who crave authentic nature experiences and don't mind embracing the remote character of Alaska's Inside Passage.

The area surrounding Bartlett Cove is characterized by temperate rainforest, with towering Sitka spruce and western hemlock trees creating a lush, green environment even during peak summer months. The region receives significant rainfall, which contributes to its verdant landscape and the glacier formation that makes this park so spectacular. Wildlife viewing opportunities abound, with possibilities for spotting black bears, sea otters, harbor seals, humpback whales, and bald eagles. Birdwatchers will find the variety and abundance of species remarkable.

Glacier Bay itself is the primary attraction, and visitors can explore it through various means including ranger-led programs and boat tours. The park protects over 3.3 million acres of wilderness, featuring a tidewater glacier system that's actively retreating—a dramatic reminder of climate change but also an incredible natural phenomenon to witness. Many visitors spend days exploring the bay's different arms, each offering unique scenery and wildlife viewing opportunities.

For RV travelers, reaching Bartlett Cove requires ferry service, which adds to the sense of genuine remoteness and adventure. This journey itself becomes part of the experience, offering stunning views of Alaska's Inside Passage as you approach the park. The campground provides a comfortable base for exploring one of America's most remarkable natural areas.

This destination appeals to nature photographers, glacier enthusiasts, wildlife observers, and anyone seeking a truly transformative Alaskan experience. It's ideal for travelers willing to embrace the park's wild character and the logistical considerations of accessing Southeast Alaska.

Nice campground with plenty of spaces. Food cache, toilet and firewood (rather wet) available. Bathrooms with warm water are located at the Ranger station and at the nearby Glacier bay lodge you can shower for 5$

Lovely campground by the water. Very quiet with nice bathrooms and several food caches. They also have a gear cache where people can exchange food or supplies. Fast WiFi available at the ranger station.
