About Big Bend of the Colorado Campground

Campground in Arizona.

Nestled along the scenic Colorado River in Arizona, Big Bend of the Colorado Campground offers RV travelers an exceptional escape into nature's raw beauty. This public campground captures the essence of southwestern camping, where the mighty Colorado River winds through dramatic desert landscapes, creating one of the region's most photographed natural settings. The campground itself provides convenient access to this stunning waterway, making it an ideal base for both relaxation and adventure.

The surrounding area presents a unique combination of outdoor recreation and natural wonders. The Colorado River is the undisputed centerpiece, offering excellent opportunities for boating, fishing, and water sports throughout the year. Many guests spend their days exploring the river by boat, discovering hidden coves and wildlife viewing spots that are only accessible from the water. Anglers find the river particularly rewarding, with excellent fishing for striped bass and other species. Even those who prefer quieter pursuits enjoy simply sitting by the water's edge, watching the light change across the canyon walls as the day progresses.

Beyond water activities, the surrounding desert landscape invites exploration and discovery. The region's geology tells the story of millions of years of Colorado River erosion, creating impressive canyon formations and colorful rock layers. Hiking trails in the vicinity range from easy riverside walks to more challenging desert treks, each offering their own rewards. The lower desert ecosystem supports diverse wildlife, and patient observers may spot bighorn sheep, golden eagles, and other desert inhabitants.

The camping experience here appeals to a wide range of travelers. Families appreciate the accessible water recreation and natural classroom for learning about geology and ecology. Anglers travel from across the country to test their skills. Retirees and digital nomads value the peaceful desert setting and sense of escape. Photography enthusiasts find endless subjects in the interplay of river, rock, and light. Whether you're seeking water-based adventure, peaceful solitude, or a combination of both, Big Bend of the Colorado Campground provides an authentic Arizona desert experience with the reliable amenities of a well-managed public facility.

Beautiful place to visit. It cost $10 per vehicle to get in, however I have the yearly pass which I think is worth it (any state park accepts it). It was very quiet till a about 2 PM when it started to get busier. You do get to see a lot of wild life there which I always enjoy.

It waa a pleasant walking pathway. Busy on Sat. I decides to take my cat, as she does walk on a leash, but it was too crowded & she preferred me to carry her. She got attention & enjoyed that. It was a beautiful experience & enjoyed the exercise. Be aware if you are handicapped that it is about 1.5 mi round walk. There are places to rest.

Right over the river is Bull City, Nevada that is very developed with any store or restaurant chain you might want to go to. Great bathroom/shower house. We really enjoyed our time and definitely will return next time we are going through the area!
