About Big Lake- North Shore Boating Day Use Area Picnic

Big Lake- North Shore Boating Day Use Area Picnic Rent-A-Tent

Big Lake in Arizona's White Mountains offers a refreshing escape from the desert heat, and the North Shore Boating Day Use Area Picnic facilities provide an ideal setting for RV enthusiasts seeking water-based recreation and scenic mountain relaxation. Located at elevation, this area delivers cooler temperatures and a genuine sense of alpine tranquility that contrasts beautifully with Arizona's lower desert regions.

The lake itself is the centerpiece of the experience here. With crystal-clear waters surrounded by evergreen forests, Big Lake attracts visitors who want to combine RV camping with boating, fishing, and water sports. The North Shore location positions you perfectly for launching boats, swimming, or simply enjoying waterfront views from your RV site. The day-use picnic facilities mean you have excellent access to shaded areas, tables, and gathering spaces perfect for family meals and social activities.

This area appeals particularly to families with children, fishing enthusiasts, and anyone seeking respite from scorching desert temperatures. The combination of water recreation opportunities and mountain scenery creates an environment where you can enjoy outdoor activities without feeling landlocked at your campsite. Early mornings on the lake are especially peaceful, with the water often mirror-smooth and wildlife activity at its peak.

The surrounding White Mountain region provides additional exploration opportunities. Nearby trails offer hiking options for various skill levels, and the dense forest landscape invites nature photography, wildlife watching, and peaceful walks. The elevation keeps things comfortable even during Arizona's hot months, making this an attractive destination when lower-elevation parks become uncomfortably warm.

Amenities at the day-use area support convenient RV camping experiences, with picnic facilities and boat access being primary draws. The well-maintained reputation reflected in visitor reviews suggests you'll find clean facilities and good organization. Whether you're an avid angler hoping to land trout, a boater looking for scenic water adventures, or simply someone wanting to escape to cooler mountain air, Big Lake's North Shore facilities deliver a satisfying Arizona mountain camping experience.

Super clean campground. I've been here in an RV and have tent camped, and it was great both times. Quick easy access to willow beach for fishing or other water sports.

What an amazing place! This RV Park is more like a campground than a normal RV park. The spaces are large, so clean!, they rake the site before each stay so if feels like you are the first person to ever stay there. The surroundings are fantastic! There's the river and marina on site, a great store, some sites have views all the way down to the river. That bathrooms are clean and the shower... What an amazing place! I've been coming to Luna Lake since i was a kid. I've seen the world change from the 1980s to 90s to now 2026. One thing that remains for me is Alpine and Luna Lake. My cousins and I used to ride paddle boats all over the lake. We'd fish from anywhere and everywhere we could. Picnic lunch was hot dogs and chips or sandwiches we ate with haste so we could get back on/in the Lake. I'm Grateful for... I've been coming to Luna Lake since i was a kid. Went fishing here for the first time with my son. We pulled out some nice sized trout. The lake was beautiful first thing in the morning and we had a beaver swim by while we were fishing. We had a really good time. The shoreline is pretty rocky, so come prepared.

Small serene lake. Beautiful.. comfortable to walk and picknic. Not a swimming hole, you can boat and fish on this tiny lake, but there is enormous algae and reeds throughout. It's somewhat marshy- and not advisable for swimming. But great for fishing!! This is on the boarder of Arizona and NM and you'll need an Arizona Fishing license here.

Fantastic views, great weather, clean picnic areas. Luna lake is a great place for a day visit or camping activities. The surrounding mountains provides a sense of wonder. If you're lucky you might see the visiting Bald Eagle pair that comes here on a regular basis. Wonderful example of land management.

Fool Hollow is a great campground. It was very quiet and clean. The sites are paved and level. The price per night is kind of high. We would love to go here more often, but with the recent price increase, we will have to limit our visits. The lake was very low. I can only imagine how beautiful the lake would be when full.

We stayed in Mallard campground and tent camped. Excellent restrooms very clean and the park was very quite even being full. The lake was gorgeous to walk around and enjoyed the bird watching. There is a rental business on-site for water craft activities. Thank you Fran, Park Staff, and Volunteers for keeping this park so spectacular. We'll be back again!

Nice camp area we were in the Cinnamon Teal loop. Our only concern was it would be nice to make more clear at reservation that some of the sites are "Buddy" sites as our site neighbors were smokers and that made it difficult to open windows. Besides that, the area is well kept and the staff is very friendly. The restrooms and showers are very clean.

Our first time visiting! The person at the information booth said fishing was slow, but on our first cast caught a decent small mouth bass from shore! The shoreline is very rocky with no shade, but above the lake there are nice, sheltered picnic areas. Beautiful pine trees and blue skies, but no bugs to speak of. Just a great place to spend the day!
