Echo Bay Lower Campground, nestled within the Lake Mead National Recreation Area near Overton, Nevada, offers a rustic retreat for those seeking a quieter slice of the desert. Situated along the Overton Arm of Lake Mead, this campground features 34 paved sites suited for tents or RVs, each equipped with a picnic table, fire ring, and grill, though it lacks hookups for a true dry camping experience... Situated along the Overton Arm of Lake Mead, this campground features 34 paved sites suited for tents or RVs, each equipped with a picnic table, fire ring, and grill, though it lacks hookups for a true dry camping experience. The proximity to the lake—about three-quarters of a mile—makes it a convenient base for boating, fishing, or kayaking, especially since it’s closer to the water than its Upper Campground counterpart. Basic amenities like flush toilets and drinking water are available, but don’t expect showers or Wi-Fi; this is a spot for unplugging amid palm trees, oleanders, and the occasional glimpse of wildlife like birds or coyotes. The charm of Echo Bay Lower lies in its simplicity and solitude, though it’s not without drawbacks. Open year-round, it’s a first-come, first-served setup—reservations aren’t an option—so arriving early is key, especially during cooler months when snowbirds might trickle in. The campground’s remoteness, roughly 5 miles off Highway 167, offers stunning desert vistas and easy access to nearby Valley of Fire State Park, but the receding lake levels have closed the Echo Bay boat ramp, pushing water activities further afield to Callville Bay, about 30 miles south. Summer heat can be brutal, often exceeding 100°F, while winter brings chilly nights, so timing your visit matters. For those who value peace over polish and don’t mind packing in supplies (the nearby store is sparse), Echo Bay Lower delivers a no-frills escape with nature as the star.

Some of the reviews on here are for the private RV park ACROSS the road! Folks need to review the correct facility and not the NPS CG. Seems the pvt run rv park across road has issues! Anyhoo, The Upper Echo Bay CG is run by the NPS and has a camp host. Only one loop seems to be open in winter and about 1/2 of those are rv size..rest are more suited to back in vans and tenters. Note that sites... Some of the reviews on here are for the private RV park ACROSS the road! Folks need to review the correct facility and not the NPS CG. Note that sites are $20/$10 senior with a 30d stay limit, all are now reserve or pay online at site, NO CASH OR CHECKS ACCEPTED, No fcfs. Trash, water, vault toilets, and an rv dump. Cell service is ok at the upper cg, but very limited at lower cg. Not sure why.

Clean well maintained. Used dump station and it was cleanest I've seen anywhere! A parks employee was sampling potable water, which I love to see.

Spent night of Jan. 26, 2024. They just started reservations in the Echo Bay campgrounds. 4 campers in the whole campground. Go figure! I tried but failed to register online. Complicated system. No place to put in senior pass. Other campers tried and failed to find their way to pay. Otherwise, quiet campground. Bathroom needs maintenance.
