I visited December 29 & 30. It was absolutely breathtakingly - beautiful, which made up for the frigid temperatures (19 degrees) and extreme wind. I camped in spot 37, I think? It was one of the last spots overlooking the Rim. I didn't hear or see anyone while I was there. I have a Subaru Outback - it made it to the end of the road just fine, but a car with lower clearance would be challenged. Lot... I visited December 29 & 30. Lots of rocks and deep grooves. There were nice fire rings, but it was much too windy to make a fire.

5 star views from the edge of Mogollon Rim during the day and 5 star views of the night sky as well! The road has some pretty rough sections, but passable for cars as long as you are mindful of the bigger rocks jutting up. As with many dispersed camping sites, there was some broken glass, beverage cans, and random bits of trash here and there.

This is a great free place to camp and enjoy the Mongollon Rim. Site 16 had a nice natural ledge million dollar view. Windy sometimes but it's expected. Was quiet at night. Sites are far apart and most separated by Tres and bushes. Large sites. Really wonderful for free. There is only a fire ring at the site. Vault toilets at the entrance. Road is 2 wheel drive accessible as long as not a low ride... This is a great free place to camp and enjoy the Mongollon Rim. Site 16 had a nice natural ledge million dollar view. Well used to be nicest campground on the rim but forrest service ruined it. Cut all the shade pines, left about 8 trees per acre & a big wind came & since it was so thin blew over 4 left on every acre. They have not bladed the road in 2 years, same huge potholes & watterpuddles. 1 tree per camp area has shade, just not enuff. They are paving the 300 to bear canyon lake so no more washboard. But it drops you off to bc lake with 1 way in 1 way out & a parking lot for 25vehicles. There is miles of marked hiking trails but at the end of the road are a dozen blown over trees blocking the trail. You'd never know there back there. & bysome freak wind storm some trees blew over the road left to right, then magically they blew rt to left , rootbal rocks whole shebang! Yes again poor forrest service management . It's 2 miles from. Woods canyon lake so bring your paddleboard or kayak. They do rent them at the lake 25$/ hr If your lucky there's elk in the area rainbows & quite the view, plan on it being windy

Awesome, awesome experience. Get out and enjoy the woods. Free dispersed camilping along the rim with a total of 41 sites near woods canyon lake. Why pay when the forest was meant to be free.
