About Cave Springs Campground

Campground in Arizona.

Nestled in the heart of Arizona's red rock country, Cave Springs Campground offers an unforgettable escape into one of the most visually stunning landscapes in America. Located in the Coconino National Forest near Sedona, this campground serves as an ideal basecamp for experiencing the dramatic beauty of northern Arizona's high desert terrain. With 84 sites spread across the property, the campground provides a genuine connection to nature while maintaining enough infrastructure to ensure a comfortable camping experience.

The setting here is truly remarkable. Towering red rock formations rise majestically around the campground, creating a sense of being surrounded by natural monuments. The elevation of around 4,000 feet means pleasant temperatures throughout much of the year, making it an excellent destination for spring and fall camping. The natural landscape provides endless opportunities for photography, with every sunrise and sunset painting the rocks in brilliant shades of orange, red, and purple.

For those seeking outdoor adventure, the location couldn't be better. The Coconino National Forest surrounding Cave Springs Campground offers extensive hiking trail networks suitable for all skill levels. Cathedral Rock, Bell Rock, and Courthouse Butte are among the iconic formations accessible for exploration. The nearby Oak Creek Canyon is renowned as one of Arizona's most scenic drives, with countless pullouts and trailheads along the route. Mountain biking enthusiasts will find excellent trails in the area, while creek access provides opportunities for those interested in water activities and exploration.

Sedona itself is just minutes away, offering a charming town atmosphere with galleries, restaurants, shops, and cultural attractions. The town has become known for its vibrant arts scene and wellness-focused community. Whether you're interested in dining out, browsing local artisan shops, or exploring the town's unique character, Sedona provides convenient amenities and entertainment options that complement your campground stay.

The campground is equally appealing to various types of travelers. Families appreciate the accessible location and relatively short distances to major attractions. Retirees enjoy the peaceful forest setting and manageable hiking opportunities. Adventure seekers find endless exploration possibilities in the surrounding forest and canyon country. Those seeking spiritual renewal appreciate Sedona's reputation as a place of natural beauty and tranquility. Budget-conscious travelers value the national forest setting with its reasonable rates compared to private RV parks in the area.

The natural water features in the area add another dimension to the experience. Oak Creek flows through the canyon, and during appropriate seasons, visitors can enjoy creek-side activities. The surrounding forest provides shade and a cooler microclimate, which is particularly welcome during Arizona's hot summers.

Weather patterns make Cave Springs particularly appealing during shoulder seasons. Spring brings wildflower blooms and mild temperatures, while fall offers crisp mornings and warm days with stunning foliage changes in the deciduous trees mixed throughout the forest. Even winter camping is possible here, with occasional snow adding a different kind of beauty to the red rocks.

This location represents the best of Arizona's outdoor recreation opportunities, combining accessibility with authentic natural beauty and genuine wilderness character. The national forest setting ensures that the area maintains its unspoiled character while the proximity to Sedona means you're never far from civilization when you need it.

Solid campground in Arizona. Like many campgrounds there are some great sites and some very close to each other. But awesome spot north of Sedona and south of Flagstaff. There is easy creek access that is accessible for children. They have showers for $8 for 8 minutes, firewood for $10, and a small store for ice and stuff. I noticed the staff did a great job of cleaning each site and the restrooms... Solid campground in Arizona. Like many campgrounds there are some great sites and some very close to each other. Nice sites. I stayed in b3 because it has plenty of sun for my solar panel. It is right next to the vault toilets which are smelly, but I only noticed it sometimes. Went to get a shower token at the office and the showers are now $8. Just fyi as what I had seen elsewhere online indicated they were $4. This campground is 30 minutes from Sedona.

This is a beautiful area and we were excited to stay and do some hiking. Unfortunately, we found the sites very narrow, close together, and we could barely fit our van/casita combo. Also, stay away from site A3, 4, 5 unless you enjoy the smell of the vault toilets and dumpster. We were there in late October so I can’t imagine the smell in summer. I spent two nights at this very green oasis in Sedona. The abundance of shade provided by the pines and the nearby creek was particularly enjoyable. I had no negative experiences with the camp hosts, who promptly checked me in upon my arrival. Lots of families are here, and for the most part, quiet times were adhered to. Also, be aware that there are no grocery stores nor anywhere to dine out nearby. I would probably stay here again but away from the loop near the road as the trees do not do a good job at insulating the vehicle noise.

I really don’t understand how people can leave this campground a 5 star review. It’s awful! The sites are small, unlevel and jammed together. There’s only a narrow single lane road around the loop. They have placed large rocks very close to the road making it exceptionally hard to maneuver a camper of any length. The biggest turn off is the large dumpster trash cans that are all over the road. The biggest turn off is the large dumpster trash cans that are all over the road. The entire place reeks of the smell of trash and nasty vault toilets! To add to the misery you are right beside the very busy Hwy 89A going to Sedona so you get to listen to traffic, beating stereos and motorcycles! At least during our stay the campground wasn’t busy. When this place is full I can imagine it would be even more miserable!
