Alpine is popular during peak season. Reserve 2-4 weeks in advance for weekends and holidays.
Most parks have check-in after 1:00 PM and check-out by 11:00 AM. Call ahead if you'll arrive late.
Arizona weather can change quickly. Pack layers and check the forecast for Alpine.
Don't miss local attractions near Alpine. Ask the camp host for hidden gems and trails.

Reserved a low number site on Recreation.gov but when we got there the 'first come' sites were bigger and better views. Proximity to the lake shore and the cleanliness of the camp was good. The distance from parking to the sites themselves was very disappointing. Hills and rocks made every trip to the truck a reminder of this. The vault toilets were gross and stunk something awful. Gene (the camp host) was extremely friendly and kind to us while we were there! He helped us when we had issues and was always very nice and made us laugh. He went above and beyond for us even while he was busy. Amazing campsites that are very neat and have beautiful views, and the lake has gorgeous views. Lovely weather as well. Camp host was extremely friendly and ensured campground rules were followed. Clean restrooms. We could hear elk in the evening and located right near the lake for easy access. Nearby hiking trails were beautiful. 2024-09

The camp host (Gene or Jean or Jene? Who knows) was incredible and was quite understanding about a calamity filled, rental truck necessary weekend. Site 17 offers amazing views and a quick walk to the water. Shooting and outdoor adventures were short drives away. All in all, this is a not so well kept secret I’ll certainly come back to.

Beautiful quiet camping spot. Fire pit right at the tent site, buy your wood at the lake or bring cash to buy at the caretakers spot. We rented a tandem kayak at the lake for the day and saw some wildlife. Fyi parking is not right at the tent spot, it's located up on the road. It's not far, but plan accordingly for hauling gear. The bathrooms are clean and well maintained, one has running water.... Beautiful quiet camping spot. There are also spigots of water around the campsite for use. We didn't have a phone signal with Verizon, which was great to unplug, just plan ahead for hiking trails. Definitely a spot to visit.
