About KENTUCKY CAMP CABIN AND HEADQUARTERS BUILDING

Federal campground in Arizona.

Kentucky Camp sits nestled in the rugged beauty of Arizona's national forest landscape, offering RV travelers a genuine escape into authentic wilderness. This historic site provides a unique camping experience that combines outdoor adventure with genuine Arizona heritage. The area surrounding Kentucky Camp is characterized by dramatic desert terrain, with sweeping vistas of piñon-juniper forest and rocky mountain scenery that changes dramatically with the seasons. Spring brings wildflower displays across the high desert floor, while autumn paints the landscape in warm golden tones.

The camp itself holds significant historical value, serving as a reminder of Arizona's mining era and early settlement days. Visitors will find themselves surrounded by the kind of authentic outdoor experience that modern RV parks often can't replicate. The elevation and forest setting mean cooler temperatures compared to lower desert regions, making this an appealing destination during Arizona's hotter months. The natural landscape provides endless opportunities for hiking, exploration, and photography, with trails leading through diverse terrain that showcases the region's geological and ecological character.

The surrounding national forest area offers genuine solitude and a chance to disconnect from everyday distractions. The clear night skies away from light pollution make stargazing exceptional, and the soundscape of nature provides a restorative experience for those seeking peace and quiet. This location appeals strongly to RV travelers who value history, natural beauty, and authentic outdoor experiences over resort-style amenities. The rugged character of the area attracts visitors interested in Arizona's frontier heritage, as well as outdoor enthusiasts who appreciate exploring less-developed camping areas.

For those planning extended stays in central Arizona, Kentucky Camp provides an excellent base for exploring the surrounding national forest and nearby communities. The location offers that rare combination of accessibility and remoteness, where travelers can enjoy genuine wilderness while still being within reasonable distance of supplies and services. Whether you're a history buff, nature photographer, or simply seeking authentic Arizona camping, this location delivers a memorable experience.

We had a nice stay for several nights. As many others have pointed out- it’s definitely rustic and there are rodents. We came prepared for that and brought totes for food etc. There was no camp host during our stay, so lots of campers up late on site, and the last night of the stay someone from Friends of Kentucky Camp had been by to work on the cabin (he left a note that he had been there), but... We had cell service up the road at the main gate with both ATT and Verizon.

Staying in this cabin will allow any traveler to take a trip back in time. We stayed in mid-December and the gas stove heater kept us nice and warm. If you want to experience the AZ "wild" with some of the comforts of home you need to stay at Kentucky Camp Cabin!

Great little cabin with hiking and exploring nearby. The cabin sleeps four and there is an outhouse and open air kitchen outside. No running water inside, but a hose and faucets outside The cabin does have power, and included a refrigerator and fan when we stayed.

Great place to go for cheap. Great view, and it's right on the Arizona Trail and it's got a wonderful view. Nice and small cabin, with 3 rooms all made from adobe. If you can get past the bugs, it's a nice piece of history.

We spent a couple nights at the Bed and No Breakfast Inn at Kentucky Camp in early September 2017. Wonderful place! Great hiking nearby, lots of history and pretty well preserved for a ghost town. Hats of to the Friends of Kentucky Camp for all they do!
