About Desert View Campground

Desert View Campground is a popular national park campground near Grand Canyon, Arizona offering 50 sites for campers and RV enthusiasts. Enjoy the natural beauty and outdoor recreation opportunities this destination provides.

Perched on the South Rim of the Grand Canyon, Desert View Campground offers one of the most spectacular backdrops for an RV camping adventure in the country. Waking up to the sight of the canyon's layered red rock walls and endless sky is an experience that stays with visitors long after they leave. This National Park campground provides direct access to one of Earth's most awe-inspiring natural wonders, making it an ideal destination for those seeking to immerse themselves in stunning desert landscapes and geological majesty.

The campground's location at Desert View offers a quieter alternative to the busier South Rim facilities. With fifty well-spaced sites, you'll find a more peaceful camping experience while still enjoying convenient amenities. The area receives fewer crowds than some other canyon viewpoints, giving you better opportunities to contemplate the vastness of the landscape and enjoy moments of solitude under the desert sky. Whether you're watching sunrise paint the canyon walls in shades of gold and crimson or sunset turn them deep purple and orange, every hour brings new visual drama.

For RV travelers, the campground provides essential facilities including a dump station for tank maintenance, restrooms with shower facilities, picnic tables at each site, and fire rings for evening gatherings. Pets are welcome, so your furry camping companions can enjoy the adventure with you. These amenities ensure a comfortable stay while maintaining the natural character of this remarkable location.

The area surrounding Desert View is rich with exploration opportunities. Scenic drives along the rim offer numerous pullouts and viewpoints, each revealing different perspectives of the canyon's majesty. Hiking trails of varying difficulty levels allow visitors to get closer to the geological wonders. The Desert View Watchtower, a historic structure with panoramic views, stands nearby as a reminder of the region's cultural heritage. Birdwatching enthusiasts will appreciate the diverse species that call this high desert environment home.

The campground operates year-round, though seasons bring different experiences. Spring and fall offer mild temperatures ideal for comfortable camping and hiking. Summer brings longer daylight hours for exploration, while winter provides clear skies perfect for stargazing in this remote location far from light pollution. Whether you're a nature photographer, geology enthusiast, family adventurer, or someone seeking peaceful desert solitude, Desert View Campground serves as the perfect base for Grand Canyon discovery.

My recent stay at the Desert View Campground was nothing short of spectacular, offering a truly exceptional Grand Canyon experience far removed from the typical crowds. This is a genuinely amazing campsite that perfectly balances accessibility with solitude, and it will definitely be our go-to spot for future visits. What immediately set Desert View apart was the incredible scenery and the lack of crowds. Unlike the main Grand Canyon Village viewing areas, which can feel hectic, Desert View provided a peaceful, intimate experience. The views from the campground area were all the "right views"—stunning, expansive, and deeply inspiring—but we often felt like we had them all to ourselves. The campground itself is thoughtfully designed. The sites are very well spaced, offering a comfortable sense of privacy and quiet. This excellent spacing contributed significantly to the relaxed atmosphere, allowing us to fully appreciate the natural surroundings without being on top of our neighbors. For anyone looking to capture the awe of the Grand Canyon while maintaining a sense of peace and tranquility, Desert View Campground is the perfect choice. We thoroughly enjoyed our time and are already planning our return. We will certainly be back again next year!

Desert view campground was awesome. It was rustic tent camping. Everything was clean with's fire pit and a picnic table. The fire restrictions were lifted and we had a wonderful campfire. The host Chris was awesome very friendly and knowledgeable and helped us out a lot he's top notch in my book.

What a great campground. Primitive but it has everything that you need. Clean flushing toilets, and a camp store that is open seasonally. Fees are reasonable considering the location! Come and check this place out, you won't regret it.

A little busy but it was easy to book a site in advance. Luckily we were able to secure a quiet pad to ourselves. I wouldn’t recommend anyone in a large RV to stay there. It was tight with our truck camper pulling a trailer. We unhitched and tucked in for the night. Not much for critter action compared to the other RV parks.

Our family had a blast staying at Desert View campground during Spring Break. The campground had just opened the day we got there (this campground is closed for winter), and we were happy to be a little removed from the crowds near the main area of the South Rim. We enjoyed sunrises and sunsets by making a short walk to the rim, where we were sometimes the only ones there. We even saw elk one morn... Our kids enjoyed climbing on the structures, and the surroundings were stunning. The campground itself was clean and the sites were spacious. Our host and neighbors were all very friendly. We'd feel lucky to be able to return!
