About Catalina State Park: Loop B

Campground in Arizona.

Nestled in the rugged foothills north of Tucson, Catalina State Park offers RV campers an authentic Arizona desert experience with stunning mountain vistas and excellent access to outdoor recreation. Loop B provides a well-maintained camping area where you can wake up to dramatic views of the Catalina Mountains, one of the most iconic ranges in Southern Arizona. The park sits at an elevation that keeps temperatures moderate compared to lower desert areas, making it comfortable for camping during much of the year.

The landscape here is quintessential Sonoran Desert, with saguaro cacti, palo verde trees, and diverse wildlife creating an immersive natural setting. Whether you're an early riser or prefer evening adventures, the changing light on the mountains throughout the day creates constantly shifting backdrops that make photography enthusiasts return year after year. The area feels remote and peaceful, yet you're only about thirty minutes from Tucson's amenities, restaurants, and services whenever you need them.

For outdoor enthusiasts, the park is a gateway to exceptional hiking and trail exploration. The surrounding foothills offer routes ranging from leisurely walks to challenging day hikes, allowing visitors of all fitness levels to experience the desert landscape up close. Birdwatchers find this area particularly rewarding, as the varied terrain and vegetation support numerous species throughout the seasons. The park's proximity to both the wilderness and urban conveniences makes it ideal for those seeking balance between adventure and accessibility.

Families appreciate the open spaces for children to explore safely, while retirees enjoy the relaxed pace and natural beauty. The area attracts visitors year-round, though the cooler months from October through April tend to be most popular. The combination of desert scenery, outdoor recreation opportunities, and the genuine Arizona character of the landscape makes Catalina State Park Loop B a destination that captures what many travelers seek when heading to the Southwest.

Absolutely love this State Park. It has it all for the adventures. So many hikes to pick from, for all fitness levels. Mountain biking trails. It's in a lush beautiful area oasis, but only short drive to all the aminaties Tuscon offers. A trip to the Biosphere 2 was great!! A drive up Mount Lemmon Hwy is incredible. So much to see and do.... Loved it, we will be back.

February 2026 - People get pretty excited about this State Park. Hiking and scenery is excellent! Spacious campsites and quiet? Go “anywhere” else. This State Park calls the Ringtail Camping Loop “Rustic” - I call it BS!!! Ringtail is a dirt overflow lot period. Campers packed in like sardines in a can. Shame on Catalina. You should remove half the sites in Ringtail and manage it. Another example... February 2026 - People get pretty excited about this State Park. Hiking and scenery is excellent! Generators allowed 8am-8pm!!! People start the generators early and the hosts do nothing. The exhaust stinks and the noise is obnoxious. The retirees love this campground because restaurants, Walmart and Petco are across the street (Oracle) LOL. We have traveled a LOT. This is not our idea of camping. Again, hiking is beautiful, just know what you are booking.

Clean facilities, easy parking, and help staff and volunteers at this park. I also appreciate the dog-friendliness. I love the variety of well-maintained trails that offer different levels of difficulty, length, and elevation gain. I spent about three hours in the park hiking with my dog.

This is a really nice park . It’s close to lots of hiking and biking trails there are lots of trees. The spots are large with plenty of privacy. Relax and cut loose for a while. The bathrooms are nice and clean. There is a shopping center with Walmart, movie theater and restaurants right across the street. And Tucson only a few minutes down the road. There is wildlife wondering through your camps... This is a really nice park . It’s close to lots of hiking and biking trails there are lots of trees. The spots are large with plenty of privacy.
