About BOAT-IN SITES (LAKE SONOMA)

Federal campground in California.

Lake Sonoma offers a truly unique RV camping experience that appeals to water enthusiasts and nature lovers seeking something different from traditional campground stays. This public campground features boat-in sites, making it an ideal destination for those who want to combine their RV adventures with water-based recreation and exploration.

Lake Sonoma itself is a stunning 53-mile-long reservoir nestled in Sonoma County's wine country region, surrounded by rolling hills and oak woodlands. The area's natural beauty is remarkable year-round, with spring wildflowers painting the hillsides, warm summers perfect for water activities, and pleasant fall weather ideal for outdoor exploration. Winter visits offer peaceful solitude and dramatic cloud formations over the water.

The boat-in site concept creates an exceptional camping environment where you'll experience a sense of seclusion and adventure that traditional RV parks simply cannot match. After arriving at the main staging area with your RV, you'll transition to water access, creating a distinctive two-part camping journey. This setup appeals particularly to boaters, fishing enthusiasts, and those seeking a more immersive natural experience away from crowded facilities.

The lake itself is excellent for multiple water activities including fishing for bass, catfish, and sunfish, boating, and water sports. The surrounding landscape offers wonderful opportunities for hiking and nature observation, with oak and chaparral ecosystems supporting diverse wildlife. Birdwatchers will appreciate the variety of species throughout the seasons.

Beyond the lake, you're positioned within easy reach of Sonoma County's attractions. Wine enthusiasts can explore the nearby wine country, while those interested in history can visit local heritage sites. The towns of Healdsburg and Geyserville offer dining, shopping, and cultural attractions.

This destination suits boaters and fishing enthusiasts most perfectly, but also appeals to families seeking outdoor adventure, nature photographers, and anyone wanting to escape typical RV park environments. The five-star rating reflects visitors' satisfaction with this distinctive camping opportunity. The combination of water recreation, natural surroundings, and the unique boat-in experience makes Lake Sonoma an unforgettable RV camping destination.

I have taken my kids and a few of their and my own to these sites for years. It is the greatest experience ever. Bring lots of water and prepare to go on hikes where you can find anything. We found a wild boars skull-tusks and all. We have brought a row boat with us because we prefer the no/slow boating areas so we can fish. We have brought a row boat with us because we prefer the no/slow boating areas so we can fish. It's a nice, doable row but might take an hour or so...one way but the privacy is wonderful. The people in charge are very friendly and helpful. There are parts you can take your dogs, the fishing is great and we even found a place in the lake where warm springs were keeping a small area of the lake warm. Wonderful swimming. Terrific trips to remember through time! Highly Recommend! 😊😎🏊🎣🐾
