About Bow Willow Creek Campground

Campground in California.

Bow Willow Creek Campground offers a genuine escape into California's desert landscape, where rugged natural beauty meets peaceful solitude. Located in Imperial County in the remote reaches of Southern California, this public campground serves as an ideal basecamp for travelers seeking authentic desert experiences away from crowded tourist zones.

The campground sits in a region of dramatic desert terrain, characterized by rolling sand dunes, sparse vegetation, and wide open spaces that seem to stretch endlessly under vast skies. The area around Bow Willow Creek offers visitors a chance to connect with the raw, unpolished side of California's natural environment. Early mornings bring a profound silence, while sunsets paint the desert landscape in rich golds and oranges that make for unforgettable photography opportunities.

For outdoor enthusiasts, the surrounding region provides numerous ways to explore. Off-road adventures are popular here, with many visitors utilizing nearby dunes and desert trails for four-wheeling and sand sports. Hiking opportunities abound for those who prefer to explore on foot, with trails revealing desert flora, wildlife, and geological formations shaped over millennia. The solitude and open landscape make it particularly appealing for stargazers, as the minimal light pollution offers clear views of the night sky that many travelers rarely experience in their daily lives.

The campground appeals especially to those seeking respite from developed, busy areas. It attracts desert lovers, adventure seekers, off-road enthusiasts, and anyone hoping to experience California beyond its coastal and urban attractions. Families looking for a more rugged camping adventure, couples seeking peaceful getaways, and solo travelers wanting to disconnect will all find something special here.

The Imperial County location puts visitors within reasonable driving distance of other desert attractions, though the true appeal lies in the immediate surroundings and the opportunity to slow down and appreciate the vast, quiet desert landscape that defines this corner of California.

Great Campground. Very clean. The sites are nice with coverings, large fire pits and tables. Pit bathroom was clean and well stocked. This was my first time camping here, it seems like it can be a bit windy at times but the night I stayed was calm and the stars were certainly the highlight. Sites are well spaced apart but some have little to no foliage for privacy. Overall 5 stars for sure a... Great Campground. Very clean. The sites are nice with coverings, large fire pits and tables. Excellent little campground. We got there on a Thursday at 9am and we were the only ones there. Highly recommend it but be warned, it fills up quickly and people come and go trying to find a site. Only 16 sites available. Nice hike to a nearby Palm Grove from the Campground itself.

Quiet. Toilets, non potable water, gazebos. RVs in most camp sites but not all can be leveled. $20/night. Excellent two hikes from the campsite

Well kept campground. Not for big rigs. 22’ should be ok for some spots but not all. 1 1/2 miles off from S2 with washboarded road the whole way. Water onsite is non-potable, not for drinking.
