Buckeye Campsite

It is a primitive campsite (no water, no electric, pit toilets) It’s a very remote location, 5 hours from the Bay Area over the Sonora pass, but I love it for the peace and serenity. The area is beautiful with great hiking. The camp host is friendly and helpful. Many of the sites are near the stream that runs through. At 7,000 feet elevation the temperature is moderate even when it’s stifling do... I hesitate to post this review since I don’t want to reveal the secret. The Buckeye Hot Springs are on the grounds. Really nice pool with hot temps. Unfortunately everyone seems to know about it so usually crowded. The town of Bridgeport is 15 minutes away, and offers options for restocking. Also the Twin Lakes resort is close, with a general store, laundry, and showers. The gas stations are ridiculously overpriced however. So much so that I drove 40 minutes into Nevada to get cheaper gas.

There's no running water, so you'll need to bring what you use. You can also stop by the nearby campsites down Twin Lakes road to fill up on water when needed. It's a dirt road out to this campground. It's pretty well maintained, just watch out for loose rocks in certain spots. The road from 395 was closed, but from Twin Lakes it was open.
