A friend suggested I check out this campground and the road up to it from Hwy 178. I started at Chimney Peak Rd and 178, west of Walker Pass summit. A dirt road, fairly wide and easily traveled when dry without 4 wheel drive. It's uphill to the campground. Steep in some places and about 6 miles to the camp. Lots of amazing views and a couple diversions along the way. The campground is spread out o... A friend suggested I check out this campground and the road up to it from Hwy 178. Steep in some places and about 6 miles to the camp. Lots of amazing views and a couple diversions along the way. The campground is spread out over a wide area with more than 20 sites. No water. Vault toilets were clean and surprisingly without graffiti. Large heavy picnic tables and some small rectangular fire pits. Very quiet, we were alone. It's just past Halloween and it was a very pleasant day. I liked the campground and will be back.

I dropped off PCT travelers who decided to skip the rest of the high desert trail during a 107' heat wave. I had never been there and was delighted with what I saw. Plenty of trees and shade and a very clean campground.

Free, primitive campground. I went there on a Tuesday in late July and only saw one other person pass through in a truck. It was a little too lonely for me so I left and went to Kennedy Meadows. The campground is made up of a series of clusters of camp sites spaced out along the creek. There’s plenty of shaded spots and it’s a very beautiful setting. I checked out the creek for a second. This would be a great spot to camp with a group of people in smaller trailers.
