About Costanoa

Campground in California.

Nestled along the rugged California coast near Pescadero, Costanoa offers a unique camping experience where coastal beauty meets thoughtful outdoor hospitality. This public campground serves as an ideal base for exploring one of Northern California's most dramatic and unspoiled stretches of shoreline, where towering cliffs meet sandy beaches and coastal trails wind through protected natural areas.

The location itself is remarkable. Pescadero is a small, charming coastal community that has maintained its character while offering visitors genuine access to the Pacific Ocean. The area surrounding Costanoa showcases the raw beauty of the California coast, with opportunities to witness migrating whales, explore tide pools teeming with sea life, and hike scenic bluffs that provide endless ocean vistas. The nearby Point Año Nuevo, a wildlife sanctuary, offers unique opportunities to observe elephant seals in their natural habitat during designated viewing seasons. Beaches in the area are perfect for contemplative walks, beachcombing, and enjoying dramatic sunsets over the Pacific.

Beyond the immediate coastal attractions, this region provides excellent access to several notable destinations. The Santa Cruz Mountains offer hiking trails and redwood groves just inland, while charming towns like Half Moon Bay and San Gregorio are within reasonable driving distance. The area is known for its agricultural heritage, with local farms and farm stands offering fresh produce and seasonal goods. Wine country in the nearby Santa Cruz Mountains provides another dimension for exploration if you're interested in vineyard visits and tastings.

The campground itself caters to different camping styles and preferences, making it accessible to various types of travelers. Families appreciate the safe environment and proximity to beaches suitable for kids. Couples seeking romantic getaways find the coastal setting inspiring. Serious nature enthusiasts and photographers come for the dramatic landscapes and wildlife opportunities. The relatively mild climate along the coast means this destination works well across seasons, though summer offers the most reliably warm weather.

This region appeals particularly to those seeking an authentic coastal California experience away from crowded tourist areas. Whether you're drawn to nature photography, hiking, wildlife observation, or simply soaking in the peaceful rhythm of coastal life, the Pescadero area delivers. The combination of public lands, protected habitats, and small-town charm creates a distinctive camping destination that feels both accessible and genuinely wild.

For the lodge - it is priced as a luxury resort, and the location is beautiful, but they have NO food anywhere. I just paid $9 for this single piece of bread with avocado on it. They wouldn't even stretch themselves to provide 2 prices of toast. And this is the only thing they are making, other than a yoghurt parfait. You have to go 30 min north or south for food. Not worth coming here, not worth paying $250 per night, if you are staying at the lodge. If you are camping and have your own food and grill then this is a great spot I think. Also the rooms are built with really shoddy quality. The first floor balcony door barely is lockable - you have to physically lift the whole door, and force it to align with the bolt to lock it. No way someone without significant upper body strength does this successfully. Everything feels like the aesthetic was thought of but then the actual construction was slap dash. And they only tell you about roof work AFTER you check in. I recommend calling ahead and not staying at the lodge until after they're done figuring out how to actually be a quality hotel.

These people went above and beyond to accommodate us with the power outage. Aside from that, this property is AWESOME! We had great experiences at the restaurant with delicious food and friendly staff. The sunset view was incredible. The bar cart was such a cool little feature every evening. The cabin was perfect for four of us and a toddler. We will be back for sure!

What a beautiful place. The food and the restaurant is amazing. The relaxing atmosphere. The weather was perfect on a late Autumn day. So quiet. So peaceful. And if you're not actually in therapy, it's thereapeutic nonetheless. Try staying a night or two in the lodge or in one of the yurts. Everything is nice and the grounds are big and the food is good and the people are sweet and very accommodating. You can't go wrong at this place. Can I give a sixth ✨✨✨✨✨✨? Yes, I can

You have to visit and stay at Costanoa!! The views from the property and the hiking trails behind the property are breathtaking. The ocean is just across the highway, with trails that lead to benches along the cliffs. The most beautiful sunsets you've ever seen. I cannot wait to return. I stayed for 2 nights in a tent with two beds. I was near the restrooms, very clean. The general store was great... You have to visit and stay at Costanoa!! Our 3rd New Year at Costanoa. My favorite escape from it all. Grounds are clean, view is beautiful. Restaurant is great and kids activities are high quality. Shout out to Oscar for helping us get settled in our RV site.
