About Del Norte

Campground in California.

Del Norte Public Campground offers a quintessential California camping experience nestled in one of the state's most captivating regions. This well-established destination welcomes RV travelers seeking to explore the rugged beauty of the northern California coast while enjoying reliable campground facilities and a peaceful retreat from the everyday.

The Del Norte area is renowned for its dramatic coastal scenery, ancient redwood forests, and remarkable natural landscapes. Campers here find themselves positioned to explore some of California's most iconic destinations. The nearby redwood groves showcase some of the tallest trees on Earth, creating an awe-inspiring backdrop for morning walks and nature photography. The pristine coastline features dramatic cliffs, hidden coves, and opportunities for beach exploration that range from tranquil walks to more adventurous tide pooling expeditions.

What makes this region particularly special is the remarkable balance between accessibility and authentic wilderness. You're never far from services and supplies, yet the area maintains a wonderfully remote feel that makes you feel truly disconnected from urban life. The mild coastal climate means year-round camping is feasible, though summers bring the most comfortable weather and clearest skies for stargazing.

The surrounding communities offer genuine small-town character. Local farmers markets, family-owned restaurants, and independent shops reflect the area's unique culture and provide welcome opportunities to stretch your legs and interact with locals who genuinely appreciate visitors. Fishing enthusiasts will find excellent freshwater and saltwater options, while hikers can access numerous trails ranging from easy nature walks to challenging ridge adventures.

This location appeals to a diverse range of travelers. Families appreciate the safe, welcoming atmosphere and proximity to natural attractions that educate and inspire children. Outdoor enthusiasts find endless opportunities for hiking, photography, and wildlife viewing. Those seeking a slower pace of travel discover that Del Norte provides the perfect base for extended stays, allowing time to truly absorb the region's character rather than rushing through.

We had a 30 amp pull through site. Very level side to side. Good water pressure. Camp grounds well kept, grass cut. Onsite washers and dryers, you download an app, so no quarters or credit cards. Bathhouse was clean. Staff was very polite. My friends black tank was plugged and they let him borrow a snake to clear the clog. Lots of nearby restaurants and activities. We love the atmosphere of this campground - the redwood stumps tell a tale of giants that were growing here, now hosts to new life. The camping sites are generous. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Bathrooms extremely clean. We will come again!

It was horrific. The photos do no show how the tent camp dies have extremely LOPD road noise. The management was not willing to make any concessions. I absolutely do not not recommend this place for anyone in a tent. It is really only an tv park. Camp sites offer no privacy. Go elsewhere if you can.

Out of our entire tent camping trip of several days this was the one place that we reserved instead of doing a first come first serve campground like all the other nights. We did it specifically so that we'd have a nice bathroom with running water and showers. When we got there our reservation was waiting for us with a map to our site, but apparently the campground roads/sites have been changed over time and the map had not been updated, so it was almost useless. There were also so many street lights around the campground that we didn't ever need to use our flashlights, even inside the tent. We pressed on, thinking no big deal. But then in the morning we got an email stating the bathrooms and showers would be closed for 4 days for maintenance and that the 3 porta potties would fulfill our needs just fine. Nope. When we asked why we hadn't been told earlier, or could we get a refund or at least a discount on our stay, we were told absolutely no, that it wasn't their fault that the contractor didn't give them any warning as to when he was coming. If we had been in an RV, it probably would have been nice/ok with the bright lights, traffic noise, and porta potties; but as a tent camper and with the attitude of the owner/employees, we will never go back.

We have pulled from Upstate New York to Tennessee and out to California and this is my favorite campground by far. Incredible views and such a great location, could stay here for months. Great service too.
