Arrived 9/23/25 for resupply while on NOBO JMT through hike. So much stress around resupply given that Garnet fire activity had altered normal VVR operations/services. It could've ended our trip. It's apparent that VVR supports through hikers - Raven stayed to ensure resupply services and offered what he could given the situation. It's also a great place to meet other hikers and share experience... Arrived 9/23/25 for resupply while on NOBO JMT through hike. Went on a three night backpack trip up Mono Creek trail to Pioneer Basin. Great staff including the packing station group. The skipper who gave us a ride across the lake was an awesome host. Next time we will check out the lodging before we rough it the next few nights. Very popular PCT and JMT area. Bring lots of food and drinks if planning to stay a while. Market is convenient but pricey.

Review is of the location and the food as we just did a day trip. Vermilion Valley Resort is wonderfully located in the center of nowhere. Generous portions on all of the meal. Potatoes needed a little more salt and pepper for me, but that was easily fixed. Lots of condiments (catsup, spices, hot sauce, etc etc etc). My wife got the apple pie and we shared it all. Wonderful cold mountain water out of a jug to wash it all down. We were good for the long trip back to Visalia. Something to Consider: If it is late afternoon and you are not sure if you want to eat just yet, Shaver Lake zips up early on weeknights with the next real food in Sanger or Fresno. Better get a to-go box if nothing else. Go!

A lady went missing…. Long story short. The owners of this resort had left a cabin open. Just in case someone ever needed shelter if lost. A nationwide search ensued. The lady found the open cabin and her life was saved. I don’t care what happened before now. Good or bad. Nothing could ever top the kindness of this place to have thought so careful for someone they’d never know! I wish the owners a... A lady went missing…. Long story short. I wish the owners and those responsible all of the good that life has to offer. Thanks for being a great example to learn from. 5 million stars!!

The owner purposely left a cabin unsecured in the highly unlikely event that it would be needed for shelter by lost campers/hikers. That act of trust and generosity was the saving grace of a person lost in the wildness for nearly a month. If I’m ever in the position of looking to stay at a remote resort this would be a massive factor in choosing where to stay.
