About Flying Flags Avila Beach

Campground in California.

Flying Flags Avila Beach offers an exceptional California coastal camping experience that combines the relaxation of beachside living with easy access to one of the Central Coast's most charming destinations. Situated in San Luis Obispo County, this public campground serves as your perfect home base for exploring the natural beauty and attractions of Avila Beach and the surrounding region.

The location itself is a major draw for RV enthusiasts. You'll be just steps away from the sandy shores of Avila Beach, a picturesque crescent bay known for its calm, protected waters and pristine sandy beach. The area's mild Mediterranean climate makes it ideal for year-round camping, with warm summers and gentle winters that rarely see freezing temperatures. The beach community maintains a peaceful, laid-back atmosphere that stands in stark contrast to more crowded coastal destinations, making it perfect for those seeking a quieter retreat.

Beyond the immediate beach setting, the region offers tremendous variety for different types of travelers. Outdoor enthusiasts will find excellent hiking opportunities in the nearby hills and coastal bluffs, with trails offering sweeping ocean vistas and opportunities to spot native wildlife. The area is known for excellent fishing, both from the beach and from chartered boats departing from the harbor. Water sports enthusiasts can enjoy kayaking, paddleboarding, and swimming in the calm bay waters.

For those interested in wine country, you're positioned perfectly for exploring San Luis Obispo's renowned wineries and tasting rooms. The charming downtown of San Luis Obispo, famous for its Thursday night farmers market and Spanish colonial architecture, is just a short drive away. Nearby Montana de Oro State Park features dramatic coastal bluffs, tide pools, and pristine beaches that showcase some of California's most spectacular scenery.

The campground serves families, couples, retirees, and anyone seeking an accessible yet authentic coastal California experience. Whether you want to spend your days relaxing on the beach, exploring local restaurants and shops, pursuing outdoor adventures, or simply enjoying peaceful coastal sunsets, Flying Flags Avila Beach provides an excellent home base with strong guest satisfaction reflected in its solid ratings.

An awesome spot! We did the walk in tent sites, the views were stunning, the service was outstanding. I’d recommend this place to anyone and will absolutely stay again, bring propane to fuel the “campfire” at your spot though, they do offer to bring some for a fee as well if you need, but you can’t have wood fires due to high winds up there. You are all the way up on the hill looking down at the ocean, what a beautiful way to start the day or end it. Go stay and experience the greatest welcome you’ve ever had at Flying Flags!

Sheri and Mike were absolutely amazing. They took the situation seriously right away, made us feel safe, and genuinely cared about our comfort. They went above and beyond by upgrading our site so we could relax and enjoy our stay again. Their professionalism, kindness, and quick response made all the difference. We are extremely grateful to them and would not hesitate to return because of how well they handled everything. Highly recommend — especially if you’re traveling with pets. 🐾❤️

The staff is very helpful and nice, always ready to help and say good morning and how's your day going every time. The gas fire pits are very nice in both the evenings and the mornings. I very much suggest going up to the lookout point at 8-9 am with a sweater, to get a cup of tea (usually only green tea, I reccomend the bee honey in the tea) or coffee and go down to the community area, and sit by the fire pits and play some games or watch the water. The staff is very nice, and helpful with any issues. We barely had any issues (hand wash) and everything else went smoothly and we enjoyed our stay a lot;
