About Free Camping. Sunset - Sunrise

Campground in California.

Free Camping. Sunset - Sunrise offers a unique opportunity for RV travelers seeking an authentic California coastal experience without the typical campground fees. Located along the scenic Cabrillo Highway, this public campground provides access to one of the state's most dramatic and beautiful stretches of coastline, where rugged cliffs meet the Pacific Ocean in spectacular fashion.

The setting here is pure California magic. Imagine parking your RV and stepping outside to witness the sun dipping below the horizon, painting the sky in shades of orange, pink, and purple as waves crash against rocky shores below. The sunrise experience is equally rewarding, with golden light gradually illuminating the coastal landscape and awakening the natural world around you. This is the kind of place where time seems to slow down, and the stresses of daily life fade away with each ocean breeze.

What makes this location particularly special is its accessibility combined with affordability. Free Camping. Sunset - Sunrise removes the barrier of expensive nightly fees while still providing a legitimate place to park your RV and enjoy the outdoors. The Cabrillo Highway itself is a destination worth experiencing, famous for its winding roads that hug the coastline and offer continuously changing vistas. Whether you're an adventure seeker wanting to explore coastal trails, a photographer chasing the perfect light, or simply someone looking to reconnect with nature, this location delivers.

The surrounding area offers plenty to explore. Tide pools reveal starfish and anemones during low tide, hiking trails wind through coastal vegetation offering panoramic ocean views, and charming small towns dot the highway with local restaurants and shops. Birdwatchers will appreciate the abundant seabird activity, while nature enthusiasts can observe sea otters, seals, and migrating whales depending on the season.

This campground appeals to RV travelers who value experience over amenities, budget-conscious adventurers, digital nomads seeking natural inspiration, and anyone who believes the best camping happens with an ocean soundtrack and unobstructed sunset views.

Plenty of dispersed camping sites, clean and beautiful views, nice dirt road for all wheel drive vehicles like Subaru. Great base camp to go off roading in surrounding trails and nearby hiking trails.

Blair Valley is a serene and peaceful retreat, a place worth returning to, even if it's not my absolute favorite. **Pros:** The well-dispersed campgrounds offer a quiet escape, perfect for connecting with nature. The abundant wildlife, including coyotes and owls, creates an enchanting atmosphere at night, while the clear skies invite awe-inspiring stargazing. **Cons:** Unfortunately, some visitors struggle to respect the rules. Despite clear signs, they often build fires directly on the ground, showing a disregard for the environment. Additionally, loud music and generators can disrupt the tranquility of this beautiful setting. In summary, this campground is well-maintained with excellent bathrooms, providing ample solitude for reflection and rejuvenation. It may not be my top choice in Anza - Borrego State Park, but it's undoubtedly worth the journey!

Great location to camp and hike. Plenty of room for groups, and a lot of spots for solo camping. The views are fantastic. The trail around the valley is a lot of fun and easy to pick up speed for the soft sided turns, but traffic goes both ways, so be vigilant!

Well kept. We had no problem finding a spot even with people camping. There is a ranger new to the area. Kinda cool but wrote friend a citation because of empty cans under our table outside at campsite. Because we went to hike and were not at the site is why he was cited. Also make sure not to bring dogs on the hiking trails. Pay attention to the signs. Overall it was nice.

My new favorite place in Anza-Borrego. Gorgeous views, extremely quiet, well taken care of and clean, super respectful and well behaved neighbors. So many spots to choose from. Thank you for providing us with such an amazing free resource. I'm so grateful.
