About Inyo Mountains

This undeveloped area has access to Cottonwood Creek Wild and Scenic River. There are opportunities for camping, backcountry hiking, hunting and fishing here.

Nestled in the heart of California's high country, Inyo Mountains offers a remarkable camping experience for those seeking authentic wilderness adventure and stunning natural beauty. Located in the Eastern Sierra region, this public campground serves as an ideal basecamp for exploring some of California's most dramatic landscapes and outdoor recreation opportunities.

The Inyo Mountains themselves are a rugged, pristine range that stretches across Inyo County, offering visitors a chance to experience genuine high-altitude camping. The elevation and remote setting create crisp, clear mountain air and some of the darkest night skies you'll find in California, making it perfect for stargazing and photography enthusiasts. The cooler temperatures make summer camping particularly appealing for those escaping the heat of lower elevations.

The surrounding area is a treasure trove for outdoor enthusiasts. Nearby, you'll find access to excellent hiking trails that range from moderate day hikes to challenging backcountry expeditions. The region's geological diversity means you can experience everything from alpine meadows to dramatic peaks and valleys. Rock climbers will appreciate the world-class climbing opportunities in the area, while fishermen can explore pristine mountain streams and lakes.

The Eastern Sierra location puts you in proximity to several major attractions and natural wonders. Death Valley National Park is within reasonable driving distance, as are the stunning vistas of the Sierra Nevada range. The region is home to diverse wildlife and offers wonderful opportunities for nature observation and photography throughout the seasons.

This campground appeals particularly to serious outdoor adventurers, mountain lovers, hikers, climbers, and anyone seeking to disconnect from crowds and immerse themselves in California's backcountry. The high-elevation setting and remote character make it ideal for those looking for authentic camping experiences rather than developed resort amenities. Whether you're planning a summer escape or a shoulder-season adventure, Inyo Mountains provides direct access to some of the most spectacular landscapes in the American West.

We typically prefer camping off the grid in more remote destinations. Boulder Creek is unique as it has amazing views in every direction. The sites are large and spread out. We’ve been coming back every year with our jeep club group as our launching pad for all the amazing and beautiful places to explore in the eastern sierra. The staff is friendly and helpful, and the facilities are spotless.... We typically prefer camping off the grid in more remote destinations. We stayed in Cabin 70 for New Years Eve and our friends rented the cabin right next door to us. The cabins are spacious, cozy, fully stocked and each have their own fire pits. Maria could not have been more friendly and hospitable. Overall we had a wonderful stay and will definitely be staying at Boulder Creek for our future trips to Lone Pine!

Had a great stay at Boulder Creek Campground. Well kept level sites with amazing views. Close to Whitney Portal, Alabama Hills and other beautiful places for fun day trips. Will be coming back. Stayed 5 nights January 2026.

Nice level pads. With full hook-ups. Each with a concrete “patio”. Very well maintained. Amenities include 2 pools, spa (hot tub), horse shoe pit, pickleball court, even a free trailer wash bay and more-all very well maintained. Located off the main drag so there’s minimal to no road noise. Highly recommended for long term i.e., snow birds or for a quick stop.

Wonderful RV Park. It was clean, well maintained, and had the most beautiful views of Mt. Whitney. Just down the road from downtown Lone Pine. Great restaurants, grocery store, and the must see Lone Pine Western Film History Museum. We will definitely be returning.
