About Little Sur Camp

Campground in California.

Little Sur Camp offers RV travelers a magnificent gateway to one of California's most dramatic and breathtaking coastlines. Nestled along the iconic Big Sur region, this public campground provides an ideal basecamp for exploring some of the Pacific Coast Highway's most stunning vistas and natural wonders. The location places you within easy reach of dramatic cliff formations, pristine beaches, and redwood forests that make this stretch of California legendary among outdoor enthusiasts.

The surrounding area is a paradise for those seeking both adventure and tranquility. Hiking trails wind through lush coastal vegetation, leading to panoramic overlooks where the rugged Pacific coastline stretches endlessly before you. Photography enthusiasts will find endless inspiration in the interplay of light, rock, and sea that characterizes this region. The cooler coastal climate provides relief during California's warmer months, making summer camping genuinely comfortable rather than sweltering.

Big Sur itself is a region defined by its untamed beauty and relatively undeveloped character. Unlike many popular California destinations, this area has maintained much of its natural integrity, with limited commercial development ensuring that the landscape remains the star attraction. Visitors can explore tide pools teeming with marine life, discover hidden coves accessible only on foot, and witness some of the most spectacular sunsets the California coast has to offer. The dramatic geology tells stories of the earth's powerful forces, with towering sea stacks and natural bridges carved by centuries of wave action.

The campground serves as a perfect launching point for extended exploration of Big Sur's numerous attractions. Whether you're an experienced hiker tackling challenging ridge trails or a casual wanderer exploring accessible coastal walks, the variety of outdoor activities accommodates all experience levels and interests. Birdwatchers will delight in spotting California condors and other coastal species, while marine mammal enthusiasts frequently spot gray whales, sea otters, and seals from elevated viewpoints.

This location appeals to travelers seeking authentic California coastal camping without the commercialization of more developed areas. Those who appreciate pristine natural environments, value solitude mixed with adventure, and want to experience some of America's most iconic scenery will find Little Sur Camp an excellent choice for their RV journey.

Although we stayed in a cabin it still had the feel of outdoor camping. We even had our own private fire pit. Weather tucked so the plan hiking of Point Lobos State Natural Reserve didn't happen but still was able to see some awesome views.

I loved camping at Riverside campground. It was great, the sound of the river was wonderful. They have wifi and it worked great. Every spot had a water spout. The showers had the best smelling toiletries. The space was perfect, I definitely plan on going back camping 🏕️

She is no longer there and I Felt welcome. I’m still removing one star because the prices has have gone up dramatically.

This place is amazing and out-of-this-world. This was our first time camping by the river. Our family made such great memories here and can't wait to book again. The people working here were very kind, friendly, and accommodating. The camp store had healthy options. The grounds and the bathrooms were well maintained. Huge thanks to Julio. We would’ve never known what to do. You are a great asset to the Riverside camping community.

There is a little river that runs through it, which is mostly very shallow and perfect for kids to play in. There is a playground at the next campground over and a restaurant and general store that are easy to walk to. We tent camped and felt very comfortable and safe. Unfortunately, I had a frustrating situation with the battery dying in my car, which ended up necessitating a call to a tow company on the day I was scheduled to leave. I tried jumping my car multiple times (I ended up needing a new battery). I was doing everything I could to get my car out of the spot, but I was physically unable to move it until about 2 and a half hours after check out time. The staff kept coming around and warning me that if I didn’t move it, they would be charging me a late fee. It was very stressful and almost felt like they didn’t believe me or understand that I could not move the car (it’s hybrid, and I couldn’t even figure out how to manually get it into neutral). I get that this is the policy, but I think it is important for people to know that there is no wiggle room on this even in cases that are entirely out of your control. Furthermore, if you have any concerns about your own car, get a spot down by the river, not up the hill (the staff kept telling me that a tow truck might not even be able to get up to my car… so stressful). To be fair, I would add that there are some really lovely staff members there. The woman who runs the camp store is very kind and tried to be helpful, which I appreciated.
