About Mammoth Pool Campground

Campground in California.

Nestled in the heart of California's Sierra Nevada mountains, Mammoth Pool Campground offers RV travelers an authentic alpine getaway surrounded by towering pines and pristine wilderness. This public campground sits along the shores of Mammoth Pool Reservoir, a stunning alpine lake that serves as the centerpiece for outdoor recreation and natural beauty.

The location provides the perfect base for experiencing some of California's most spectacular high country scenery. The surrounding landscape features dramatic granite peaks, dense forest, and crystal-clear mountain air that invigorates the soul. Whether you're seeking solitude in nature or adventure with family and friends, this area delivers an unforgettable mountain camping experience that feels worlds away from urban life.

Water enthusiasts will find plenty to explore at Mammoth Pool itself. The reservoir offers opportunities for fishing, with anglers frequently enjoying success with native trout species. The calm waters are ideal for those who enjoy paddling, boating, or simply sitting by the shore watching the interplay of light on water and mountains. Early mornings and sunsets at the lake are particularly magical, as the surrounding peaks reflect in the glassy water and wildlife becomes more active.

The campground serves as an ideal jumping-off point for hiking adventures throughout the region. Numerous trails wind through the surrounding wilderness, ranging from easy lakeside walks to more challenging mountain hikes that reward visitors with panoramic vistas. The cooler mountain temperatures make summer hiking particularly enjoyable, and the crisp air and absence of crowds appeal to those seeking a genuine wilderness experience.

This location attracts a diverse range of visitors: families seeking a mountain retreat away from city heat, serious anglers pursuing trophy trout, nature photographers capturing alpine landscapes, and hikers exploring Sierra Nevada backcountry. The peaceful setting and natural surroundings make it equally appealing for those who simply want to unplug, relax, and reconnect with the beauty of the California mountains. With 47 sites available, the campground offers a more intimate camping experience compared to larger, more developed facilities.

My family started camping here back in the 60s. It's been around a long time. Hit hard by fires, the family is rebuilding. Wonderful place, amazing people. Good vibes from the moment you turn that corner and see the bridge and hear people playing in the creek below.
