This is an excellent place to stop for drinking water when hiking through Death Valley. There were many fresh water springs along the route walking from Bad Water up through Horse Thief Canyon and finally to Highway 285, but much of that water tastes horrible. I suggest that people camp at one of the Grapevine Springs areas, well away from the water, instead of the campground.

Beautiful remote campsite- it is Death Valley after all. The campground is well laid out and well maintained. Camp host Lisa is lively, straightforward and helpful. She would be an asset at any campground

If peace and quiet is what you're after then this campsite will not disappoint. Stargazing is fantastic and there is a lot of wildlife to observe. We even spotted a blue heron circling above us. A Long Tailed Pocket Mouse was a regular companion to go with our sunsets. Ubehebe Crater is just a short 10 minutes drive away and it is a fantastic place to visit. Watch out for scorpions and black widow... If peace and quiet is what you're after then this campsite will not disappoint. Stargazing is fantastic and there is a lot of wildlife to observe. There is a fantastic breeze in the evening and at night at the campsite as it is 1800 ft above sea level. I believe there are 40 spots and drinking water as well as water that can be used for washing dishes. We stayed in July of 2019 and the only "noise" was a couple of coyotes howling early in the morning. Chasing a Road Runner no doubt ;)

Highly recommend!! Especially after seeing how crowded the Furnace Creek area campsites are (looks like a parking lot). We have a camper van with solar, so we took spot 25 — 24 and 25 are “RV only” — and it was on the edge of the desert and felt pretty private. Such a great time. Amazing fire pit, and we even had a charcoal grill at the site, which was unexpected! No electricity here, but there is great drinking water on the way into the campground, flush toilets, and a dish washing station. It’s a great combo of some amenities and nature. Host was super friendly. We stayed for 4 nights, and one afternoon/evening was too windy to hang out outside the van. The rest of the time was amazing. Go to Ubehebe crater. It’s majestic. Would definitely come back!!

A night we will never forget. Barebones camping in the desert with a full moon and the coyotes and the wind 'howling all night. Glad we were in a hard sided camper and not a tent. The moon was so bright it lite up the desert for miles. Spectacular views and vista.
