About Mountain Palm Springs Primitive Campground

Campground in California.

Mountain Palm Springs Primitive Campground offers an authentic desert camping experience in Southern California, where you can disconnect from the hustle and bustle and reconnect with nature. Located in the rugged beauty of the Colorado Desert, this public campground serves as an ideal base for exploring one of California's most remarkable landscapes. The area surrounding the campground showcases dramatic desert vistas, native palm oases, and diverse wildlife that make this region truly special.

The campground itself embraces a primitive camping philosophy, which appeals to RV travelers seeking a more rustic, back-to-basics experience. This approach means you'll enjoy a quieter, more peaceful environment without the commercial development that characterizes many larger parks. The desert setting provides stunning natural beauty, with opportunities to experience the raw, untouched character of Southern California's interior.

What makes this location particularly special is access to the unique palm oases scattered throughout the surrounding area. These hidden gems of vegetation and water sources create surprising pockets of life in the arid landscape. Visitors often explore the various palm canyons in the region, which offer excellent hiking opportunities with varying difficulty levels. Whether you're interested in a leisurely walk or a more challenging trek, the trails provide excellent opportunities to observe desert flora and fauna in their natural habitat.

The nearby town of Anza provides essential services and supplies for campers, ensuring you can handle any practical needs while still maintaining that remote, desert experience. Loved this hike. It's not too strenuous unless you do it in midday sun. Bring lots of water (especially on a sunny day, even in winter). It's such a treat to see an oasis. The palms are amazing. There was a small trickle of water and a few tiny pools when I went. There's lots of opportunity for scrambling up the mountain beyond the palms. Magnificent views of the desert, valley, and mountains beyo... Loved this hike. It's not too strenuous unless you do it in midday sun. Bring lots of water (especially on a sunny day, even in winter). Lovely, free "dry" camping. Pit toilet is well maintained. Several short trails to different palm groves - one quite large with 80+ trees. Roads are soft sand, so can be a concern for 2 wheel drive vehicles, but I was able to get our 25' RV in with just one bit of tire digging.

This is a great little campground with views looking over the valley. There are lots of interesting desert plants and trails that lead to palm groves. No facilities - just a nice clean outhouse.
