We spent one night here over the 4th of July holiday weekend, all the other campgrounds around the lake where full, but this place had plenty of openings. We camped for 3 nights. We saw so much wildlife-- one of the only two populations of Tule Elk is just down the way, near Lake Pillsbury. They're HUGE (!!) & just gorgeous. The campground itself-- the caretakers were quite attentive (not nosey), very, very nice and checked on us each day we were there. Their bathrooms (vault toilets) were the cleanest campground bathrooms we'd ever been in. The sites all varied in size. There is potable water, too. Not all Mendocino County campsites offer potable water. Totally worth the stay for the views, the sounds, the smells. Oh-- no cell phone service! All the rangers and caretakers that we came across who had "cell phones" had satellite phones. It's a wonderful place to bring your family to & to get away from all the hustle and bustle of today. A place where you can actually think.
