About Ramona Campground

Campground in California.

Nestled in the heart of San Diego County, Ramona Campground offers a wonderful escape into California's scenic backcountry. This public campground serves as an ideal base for exploring the charming town of Ramona, known as the "Wine Country" of Southern California, where rolling hills meet vineyards and a thriving agricultural community welcomes visitors year-round.

The surrounding area is characterized by its Mediterranean climate, oak-studded hillsides, and pastoral landscapes that transport you away from the hustle of urban life while remaining conveniently accessible. Ramona itself has become increasingly popular among travelers seeking a blend of outdoor recreation and cultural experiences. The town features numerous wineries and tasting rooms, craft breweries, farm-to-table restaurants, and local shops that reflect the region's agricultural heritage and growing culinary scene.

For outdoor enthusiasts, the location provides excellent opportunities for hiking, mountain biking, and exploring the natural beauty of North County San Diego. Lake Sutherland nearby offers recreation options, while the region's many trails cater to different skill levels. Birdwatchers and nature photographers will appreciate the diverse wildlife and seasonal displays of wildflowers that paint the hillsides in spring.

The campground makes an excellent home base for exploring historic California mission sites, antique shops, and local farmers markets that operate seasonally. Families appreciate the relaxed pace of Ramona life, where you can enjoy evening sunsets over vineyards and experience genuine small-town hospitality. The elevation provides pleasant weather during many seasons, though visitors should plan accordingly for summer heat and occasional winter rainfall.

Whether you're seeking a wine country retreat, a launching point for outdoor adventures, or simply a peaceful place to park your RV and recharge, Ramona Campground puts you in the heart of a region that combines natural beauty with growing cultural attractions. With its 4.1-star rating from nearly 200 reviews, visitors consistently praise the experience of staying here while exploring everything this distinctive Southern California destination has to offer.

First of all it took forever to get a reservation! Left messages and emails that never got answered. Would have found another place if my son wasn't staying there. There was never anyone on the office. A lot of year round residents. Some site were junky. Restrooms weren't great. Not a place O would hurry back to.

It definitely changes the vibe of the place. Fish pond, looks nice but did not see a single person fish (we did) but it was filled with algae. Hours aren’t conducive to fishing either: 10 am to 7 pm only. No picnic tables at the camp site. Many of the camping sites have no or limited shade. The best sites are taken by folks who live there full time. You get what is left over. I won’t be back and it’s a shame because this place has so much potential but it fallen to ruins. Very sad.

The office closes at 4 PM on Fridays and does not reopen again until Monday at 9 AM. I guess if you have a weekend emergency you’re out of luck. I would definitely not stay here again and if I could have turned around and easily got a refund, I would have.
