About River Park

Campground in California.

Nestled in the charming Santa Ynez Valley of California, River Park offers RV travelers a serene escape in the heart of wine country. This public campground provides an ideal basecamp for exploring one of California's most picturesque regions, where rolling vineyards meet coastal breezes and small-town character defines the landscape.

Lompoc itself is a fascinating destination with a rich history and vibrant present. The town is known as the "Flower Seed Capital of the World," and visitors often time their trips to witness the spectacular wildflower blooms that paint the hillsides in brilliant colors during spring. Beyond the flowers, Lompoc offers genuine small-town hospitality with local shops, restaurants, and galleries that reflect the area's agricultural heritage and artistic spirit.

The location is remarkably convenient for wine enthusiasts. The Santa Ynez Valley wine region is minutes away, featuring numerous wineries and tasting rooms ranging from family-owned operations to well-established estates. Whether you prefer Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, or other varietals, the valley's diverse vineyards offer something for every palate. Many wineries welcome RV travelers and offer scenic vineyard tours and tastings.

For outdoor recreation, the surrounding landscape provides excellent opportunities. Hiking trails wind through coastal hills and oak-studded valleys, offering moderate to challenging routes with rewarding views. The nearby Santa Ynez River provides fishing opportunities and peaceful spots for contemplation. Beaches are within reasonable driving distance for those seeking ocean air and sandy shores.

The region's cultural attractions add another dimension to your stay. The nearby Solvang, a charming Danish-style village, features unique shops, restaurants, and attractions that feel like stepping into a storybook. Historic missions and cultural sites dot the valley, offering glimpses into California's Spanish heritage.

River Park appeals to a diverse range of travelers—couples seeking romance and wine tasting, families wanting small-town exploration and outdoor activities, retirees looking for a relaxed pace, and road-trippers seeking an authentic California experience away from crowded tourist corridors. With its 4.0-star rating from nearly 500 reviews, visitors consistently praise the park as a welcoming and well-maintained destination.

Tucked away alllllll the way to the back is this hidden little gem of a park. Now I'm just reviewing the park on this since me and our 1 year old like to go to ALL of them. It's got a little pond with ducks that you can feed. Saw some people fishing with their Littles at the pond as well. The park is nice. 2 things I wish it had is #1 shade and #2 rubber mats instead of the bark.... I can't stand... Tucked away alllllll the way to the back is this hidden little gem of a park. I can't stand the bark, but thats not stopping us from playing. I saw no trash and the equipment is well maintained which is a plus. We visit at least once a week. There is construction at the beginning of the park as you come in as they are upgrading the RV/Camping areas which is a LONG time coming but a plus for the community and our visitors.

It also features the only dump station I know of in Lompoc, so that's very helpful. Thankfully without people there to harass them, it seems the duck population is coming back.

We enjoy walking the track in the mornings and evenings as well. The distance markers are great way to gage your walk/ run. It's just a hair under a mile around the loop. Very picturesque with the ducks around the pond as well. There are an abundance of RV sites with electrical hook ups and shower facilities as well. Great place to spend the day with friends and family too for BBQ. Horse shoe pits... We enjoy walking the track in the mornings and evenings as well. We loved staying at this park, the RV area may not be attractive but it's a very quiet place to stay and the park next door is nice. The park rangers are also friendly. It's a relatively cool park as far as open space goes (drone flying is recommended here). There's a clean pond with fish and ducks, great for ambiance, aesthetics, picnics you know the deal.
