About Soldier Meadows Campground

Soldier Meadows is a developed campground with 15 designated sites.  A maximum of 8 people is allowed per site.  Located in a picturesque meadow near Soldier Creek, the campground is surrounded by a majestic pine and fir forest.  Grills and tables are provided.

Soldier Meadows Campground offers a serene escape into California's high desert landscape, providing travelers with an authentic outdoor camping experience in a remote and unspoiled setting. Located in the vast expanses of northern California, this public campground serves as an ideal base for those seeking solitude and natural beauty away from the hustle and bustle of developed tourist areas.

The surrounding terrain showcases the distinctive character of California's interior high desert region, with sagebrush-covered plains, distant mountain vistas, and the kind of wide-open spaces that make RV camping truly special. The area receives plenty of sunshine throughout the year, and the relatively low elevation keeps temperatures comfortable during much of the camping season. Visitors will find the landscape particularly striking during sunrise and sunset, when golden light bathes the desert in warm hues.

This campground appeals to a wide range of travelers, from retirees seeking peaceful retreats to adventurous families wanting to introduce children to backcountry camping. History enthusiasts will appreciate the area's connection to California's past, with the region steeped in frontier heritage and Native American significance. Outdoor enthusiasts can enjoy hiking, wildlife observation, and exploring the unique desert ecosystem that thrives in this remote corner of the state.

The relatively undeveloped nature of Soldier Meadows Campground means visitors should come prepared and self-sufficient. This is perfect for experienced RVers who value authenticity and don't require extensive commercial amenities. The quietness of the location makes it excellent for stargazing, as light pollution is minimal and clear night skies are common. Photographers will find endless opportunities to capture the dramatic desert landscape and atmospheric lighting conditions.

The campground's remote location means nearby services are limited, making it essential to arrive fully stocked with supplies. However, this isolation is precisely what makes it special—a true refuge for those wanting to disconnect and immerse themselves in California's natural desert environment. Whether you're planning an extended stay or a quick overnight stop on a longer journey, Soldier Meadows Campground provides an authentic high desert camping experience.

The second star is for how pretty the area is. But the truth is, it was better before it was full all the time—or more than full, with people camping illegally all over the place). And before red spider mite season became nearly year-round. No amount of hot spring soaking can ease the hundreds of itchy bites you get from the critters that live in it. Ouchie-wouchies AF.

There are designated tent pads so that you have a nice place to poop a tent without rocks or foliage underneath. Fire rings for each camp site as well. It's well maintained and a beautiful landscape to enjoy.

The hot springs are infested with Red Spider Mites. The place is beautiful but stay out of the springs. They burrow into your skin and leave welts like the hives.
