About Upper Blue Lake Dam Site Expansion Campground

Campground in California.

Nestled in the scenic high country of California, Upper Blue Lake Dam Site Expansion Campground offers RV travelers an authentic escape into nature's splendor. This public campground provides a genuine mountain camping experience where you can disconnect from the daily grind and reconnect with what matters most, whether that's family, friends, or simply the restorative power of the outdoors.

The campground's location in the Sierra Nevada region makes it an ideal base for exploring some of California's most stunning natural landscapes. The elevation and mountain setting create a refreshing climate that's perfect for summer escapes when lower elevations become uncomfortably warm. The surrounding terrain features dense forests, alpine meadows, and the beautiful waters of Upper Blue Lake itself, which serves as a focal point for outdoor recreation. The clear mountain air and star-filled nights offer a welcome respite from urban environments and light pollution.

For outdoor enthusiasts, the location opens doors to numerous recreational opportunities. Fishing is a primary draw, with the lake offering chances to catch various fish species. Hiking trails crisscross the region, ranging from leisurely walks to more challenging alpine adventures. The pristine waters invite boating and water activities for those seeking refreshment during warm days. The surrounding wilderness also attracts wildlife viewing, photography, and nature study opportunities that appeal to visitors of all ages.

The campground itself maintains a rustic character that appeals to travelers seeking an authentic camping experience rather than resort-style amenities. This is a place where you're camping in nature rather than simply parking near it. The public campground designation means it's accessible to all travelers and maintained as a community resource, often at reasonable rates that make extended stays feasible.

The region attracts a diverse crowd of visitors. Families appreciate the safe, natural environment and the chance to teach children outdoor skills. Fishing enthusiasts make pilgrimages to access the lake's waters. Hiking and backcountry adventurers use it as a staging point for deeper wilderness exploration. Retirees and RV enthusiasts value the peaceful setting and outdoor-focused lifestyle. Those seeking to escape summer heat in the valleys find the elevation provides natural cooling.

The surrounding area has significant natural and recreational appeal. The high country setting means you're surrounded by protected wildlands and scenic vistas that inspire and rejuvenate. Sunrise and sunset from the campground likely offer spectacular displays across the mountain landscape. The peaceful environment is ideal for reflection, relaxation, and reconnection with nature's rhythms.

Beautiful place to camp, the maintenance is excellent, the hosts are incredibly friendly, I forgot the marshmallows for my daughters and they kindly gave us some. Also, due to the weather, we couldn't make a wood fire and they offered us their gas fire pit, Thank you for helping my family have an incredible weekend.

This is such a beautiful spot! The campground is at the end of the road past all of the other blue lakes campgrounds. It has 32 spots 9 of which are first come first serve. During the week it is not too busy but can get quite full on the weekends. There are vault toilets that were very clean. It is $23 a night with no hookups but there are water spigots around! Campsites all have fire pits, bear boxes, and picnic tables. There are bears! So be careful! Definitely some fickle fish in the lake, some people have luck but we didn't! Highly recommend this amazing campground!

Sorry for the terrible photo but I wasn’t there to take pictures, so…. Beautiful campground. Clean, quiet and fairly remote. Easy dirt road getting in. This campground isn’t built for the huge, house sized monstrosity RVs so don’t try bringing one of those here. You won’t make it. Sites are huge and private but NOT level at all, so bring stuff to level your camper. All in all one of my favorite... Sorry for the terrible photo but I wasn’t there to take pictures, so….
