About Angel Lake (Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest, NV)

Federal campground in California.

Angel Lake sits nestled in the Ruby Mountains of northeastern Nevada, offering RV campers a serene mountain retreat far from the hustle of everyday life. This beautiful campground, operated within the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest, provides an authentic high-altitude camping experience at approximately 8,400 feet elevation. The setting is characterized by stunning alpine scenery, with towering mountain peaks, pristine meadows, and crystal-clear waters that reflect the surrounding landscape like a perfect mirror.

The lake itself is the centerpiece of this destination, offering visitors opportunities to enjoy water activities and peaceful moments by the shore. The natural beauty of the area makes it an ideal spot for those seeking to disconnect and reconnect with nature. The cooler temperatures at this elevation provide welcome relief during the hot summer months, making it an excellent choice for RV travelers looking to escape intense heat while still enjoying outdoor recreation.

This location appeals strongly to outdoor enthusiasts and nature lovers who value authentic forest camping experiences. The surrounding Ruby Mountains provide a dramatic backdrop and are known for their natural beauty and ecological significance. For hikers and backcountry explorers, the national forest setting opens up numerous trail options and opportunities for discovering remote alpine landscapes. Photography enthusiasts will find endless inspiration in the mountain vistas, wildflower meadows, and wildlife viewing opportunities.

The proximity to northeastern Nevada means visitors can explore a region rich in history and natural wonders. The remote location ensures a quieter, more peaceful camping experience compared to developed resort-style parks. This makes Angel Lake particularly appealing to travelers seeking genuine solitude and a chance to experience the raw beauty of the high desert and mountain ecosystems. Whether you're planning a week-long retreat or a weekend escape into nature, Angel Lake offers the kind of authentic mountain camping experience that creates lasting memories and allows for true relaxation under star-filled skies.

Check in was super easy. Indeed, you can Check in 24 hours a day. The facilites are small but very clean, cozy, convenient and available 24 hours. The location is was just off the freeway and right across the street from a Maverick gas station. You would think is was a noisy night but it was not. I found the location very quiet, safe and comfortable. I will definitely stay there again.

Convenient stop along our route. Made it easy for us to check in after-hours and online reservations were available. Right next to a gas station so you can fill up on your way out. Everything was clean and well kept.

I’m so glad that we stayed at this beautiful campground. It’s just off the freeway so it’s really convenient. One thing that I look for is a clean bathroom and this bathroom is Clean!!! And the hot water is Hot for as long as I took a shower. My husband liked the full hook up without paying extra for it. We will definitely be stopping by here again the next time we are driving through…

Good value 40 a night. Simple but clean park. Everything was easy. Most spots appeared as if they were pull though. We showed up late at night after 9 hours of driving. Was easy and checkout is at 11 but we have a baby and a dog so we needed a few extra and was not a problem. Laundry room available. It was clean. Bathrooms also clean. Bathrooms have additional showers.
