About BLACK OAK

Federal campground in California.

Black Oak National Forest campground offers a serene escape into California's natural wilderness, making it an ideal destination for RV travelers seeking authentic forest camping experiences. Nestled within the expansive national forest system, this campground provides visitors with direct access to towering pine and oak trees, quiet forest trails, and the peaceful ambiance that only public lands can offer.

The campground's location within a national forest setting means you'll wake up surrounded by native California vegetation and the sounds of wildlife going about their daily routines. The forest canopy provides natural shade for most sites, creating comfortable camping conditions even during warmer months. This natural environment makes it an excellent choice for travelers who want to disconnect from busy highways and crowded commercial parks while still maintaining convenient RV access.

The surrounding national forest lands offer numerous recreational opportunities for visitors of all activity levels. Hiking enthusiasts will find themselves with options ranging from casual nature walks to more challenging forest trails that wind through the trees and potentially open to scenic vistas. The forest environment supports various wildlife viewing opportunities, with patient observers potentially spotting deer, squirrels, and numerous bird species throughout the day.

Black Oak serves as a wonderful base camp for exploring the broader region. The national forest setting typically provides access to fishing opportunities in nearby streams and lakes, seasonal wildflower viewing, and peaceful spots for picnicking and nature photography. The cooler forest temperatures make this an especially appealing destination during California's hotter months, offering relief from valley heat.

This campground appeals strongly to RV travelers who prioritize natural settings and outdoor recreation over amenities, those seeking a more authentic camping experience, families looking to introduce children to forest environments, and visitors planning to explore California's national forest lands. The combination of accessibility for RV travelers with the genuine wilderness character of national forest camping makes Black Oak a compelling choice for those wanting to experience California's natural beauty.

We had my stepdaughter’s 16th birthday party at Black Oak Lanes, and it was a total hit! 🎉🎳 The staff was super accommodating and made everything really easy, which I appreciated since we had a mix of teens and younger kiddos in the group. The automatic bumpers and ball ramps were perfect for the little ones, and the older kids had a blast during glow bowling—it felt like a party all on its own... Such a fun, clean, and family-friendly place to celebrate!

Very attractive RV Park with all the expected amenities plus a pool, trash pickup twice daily & a free shuttle to the casino. The sites were concrete and level and cable was also available. A gas station on site had the cheapest prices around and has a convenience store. The staff was very helpful and friendly. We would definitely stay here again.

This place has it all. While we were there, a strong freak spring storm came through dumping about 6 inches of snow one night, and the power never went down. We did have a lot of issues with the TV cable service, though, but that was on the provider and not the parks' fault. Great gas station and general store on site, plus casino and trampoline park. They are also in the process of building a hug... This place has it all. They are also in the process of building a huge pool and water park. Sonora is just a few miles away and has everything from major shopping to great restaurants to eat at. My wife and I had a great time.

Very nice place. Bigger than I thought. Kid friendly. You do smell the smoking. Just go to another place where no smoking area. Will be back with kids. Stayed at RV park at black oak.
