About Bootleg Campground

Campground in California.

Nestled in the scenic landscapes of California's national forest system, Bootleg Campground offers RV enthusiasts an authentic outdoor escape away from the hustle and bustle of developed campgrounds. This national forest gem provides a genuine connection to nature while accommodating modern RV camping needs in a setting that feels refreshingly remote and peaceful.

The campground's location within national forest lands means you're surrounded by pristine wilderness, towering trees, and the kind of natural beauty that draws people to California's outdoor destinations. The area offers excellent opportunities for hiking, with trails ranging from easy nature walks to more challenging day hikes that reward explorers with stunning vistas and peaceful forest surroundings. Wildlife viewing is common here, and patient observers may spot deer, birds, and other forest inhabitants going about their daily routines.

For those interested in water recreation, nearby streams and natural water features provide opportunities for fishing and water activities. The quieter pace of this national forest location makes it ideal for visitors seeking solitude and a break from crowded resort-style campgrounds. Whether you're an experienced RV traveler or relatively new to camping adventures, the straightforward approach here allows you to focus on enjoying the natural environment.

The campground appeals to a wide range of visitors: families looking for affordable outdoor vacations, retirees exploring California's natural attractions, outdoor enthusiasts seeking a basecamp for hiking and exploring, and anyone desiring a slower pace surrounded by forest scenery. Great camping spot. Quiet, cannot hear cars passing by. Lots of space between spots. Most sites have only one tent spot unless you place another one or two in the RV parking which every spot has. Large fire pits. No bear boxes, luckily my tool box had room in the truck bed. No showers or soap in the bathrooms. Plague of chipmunks, same as every campsite in this area. Cash or check payment. $28/night, $6 for additional vehicles.

What a great find. Camped there June 2021- 3 nights. nice camp hosts. Lots of sites to select from & not many other campers there. It’s on the side of a hill. There is a bit of road noise during the day, but we were gone most of the day checking out the area. The breeze blowing through the pine trees was very relaxing. There is a short trial on the hill above the campsites. Was told of a good burger place (Walkers) and a BBQ restaurants in Walker but we didn’t get a chance to go.

So we had to stay for an extra day to recover our car. Our food was running out and water in our camper running low, but thanks to the camp hosts (Amanda and Andy), they made the situation much easier for us. They concerned our well being and shared some of their delicious food and filing up water in our rig. Of course I wanted to thanks to Kris (camp neighbor) who gave me a big hand to tow my car out of snow. After all, this campground is amazing and super clean, especially the toilet. The con is lacking of cell signal, but if you choose the sites by entrance you might get a bar or two. I highly recommend this campground to all campers!!!

Passed this place hundred times fishing the Walker. Had no idea how nice it was , plus easy to get larger rigs in , just peace and quiet with plenty of space between sites. Plus easy to find a spot , to top it off the camp hosts are fantastic.

Great campground. First come first served only. Many big spots to camp in. Great for rvs and travel trailers up to 40ft long. Expensive for how primitive it is, $24 per site. There is running water at the campground. Camp host wasn't there when we arrived, but came back at 9:45 pm and started his generator. At midnight, we started wondering who do we complain to! Went to see him an hed ran away slamming the door in my face, but fortunately turned of his generator. I guess we interrupted his solo camping experience by using the campground. 🤷🏻‍♀️
