About Hope Valley Campground

Campground in California.

Nestled in the heart of California's Sierra Nevada region, Hope Valley Campground offers a serene escape into one of the most pristine natural environments the state has to offer. This National Forest campground sits at elevation among towering pines and alpine meadows, creating a peaceful backdrop for your RV adventure. The campground provides an authentic forest camping experience where you can disconnect from the everyday hustle and reconnect with nature and family.

The surrounding landscape is remarkable. Hope Valley itself is a beautiful alpine valley known for its stunning mountain vistas, wildflower displays during late spring and summer, and crystal-clear air. The elevation provides a refreshing retreat from the heat of lower elevations, making it an ideal destination during warm months. The meadows transform throughout the seasons, offering different natural attractions depending on when you visit. Early morning walks or evening strolls through the valley provide opportunities to spot local wildlife and appreciate the undisturbed wilderness.

For outdoor enthusiasts, Hope Valley Campground serves as an excellent base for exploring the surrounding National Forest lands. Hiking trails of varying difficulty levels crisscross the region, from leisurely meadow walks to more challenging mountain treks. The nearby Carson Pass area offers additional recreational opportunities and scenic viewpoints. Fishing in local streams and lakes provides a relaxing way to spend your days, with the chance to experience the quiet solitude that only a mountain setting can provide.

This location appeals to RV travelers seeking genuine outdoor experiences, families wanting to introduce children to camping, and anyone looking for a break from crowded tourist destinations. The relatively undeveloped nature of the area preserves its natural character while still accommodating campers. Hope Valley Campground represents the classic National Forest camping experience that keeps visitors returning year after year, offering simplicity, beauty, and the therapeutic effects of being surrounded by California's natural splendor.

We did not see anything interesting at Hope Valley but on the way to Hope Valley from Luther Pass there is a beautiful space with stunning streams in between. Park your car at the shoulder and check it out!

My family had a great experience at this campground. The campsites were immaculate with new tent pads, a fire pit, camp stove stand and BBQ. The water faucet was close to our spot, was ice cold and tasted so nice. The walk to the river was short and accessible for our small children. The bathrooms were always clean and stocked. The walk to the river was short and accessible for our small children. The bathrooms were always clean and stocked. The camp host, Dave was very friendly and helpful while not being over bearing like some camp hosts can be. He showed up with firewood at the perfect time each day. My Mom's battery died and when I asked if he had phone service so we could call AAA, he just came up immediately with a jump pack and started her car! No cell service with T-Mobile. This place is a true gem. No bears. There is a trail head at the rear of the campground with offers stunning views of the valley. Will definitely be going back. 10/10

Awesome campground! There is drinking water and bathrooms. Our campground came with 2 picnic tables, two spots for tents, a fire pit, and two anti-bear overnight food storage lockers. The campground host, David, was incredibly nice and professional! Keep in mind there is no cell service. Finally you can buy firewood at the campsite!

We've stopped here once to check it out, but then drove a few more miles towards Blue Lakes and camped out in a nice meadow just a few yards off the road and close to the West Fork of the Carson River. Around 30 years ago, the second half of Blue Lakes Road was an "off road adventure" but then it was widened and paved.
