About (LAKE ALPINE) SILVER TIP CAMPGROUND

Federal campground in California.

Nestled in the Sierra Nevada mountains, Silver Tip Campground at Lake Alpine offers RV travelers an authentic high-altitude camping experience in one of California's most pristine wilderness settings. Located at approximately 7,400 feet elevation, this National Forest campground provides a cool mountain retreat perfect for those seeking to escape summer heat and experience genuine alpine scenery.

Lake Alpine itself is the crown jewel of this area, a sparkling mountain lake surrounded by dense conifer forests and dramatic granite peaks. The clear mountain air, combined with the peaceful sound of water and wildlife, creates an atmosphere that rejuvenates the spirit. Whether you're an early riser who loves watching mist rise from the lake at dawn or someone who enjoys evening campfires under star-filled skies, this location delivers authentic mountain camping experiences that feel worlds away from everyday life.

The area surrounding Silver Tip Campground is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts. Fishing is excellent in Lake Alpine, with rainbow trout and brown trout regularly caught by anglers. Hiking trails crisscross the surrounding National Forest land, offering everything from leisurely shoreline walks to challenging backcountry adventures. Mountain biking, swimming, and kayaking are popular activities for those who want to interact with the lake itself. The forest ecosystem supports wildlife viewing opportunities, and patient observers may spot deer, marmots, and various bird species.

This campground appeals to families seeking outdoor adventure without excessive crowds, couples looking for a romantic mountain getaway, and seasoned RV travelers who appreciate high-elevation camping. The cooler temperatures make it ideal for summer camping when lower elevations become uncomfortably hot. Visitors appreciate the genuine National Forest setting, where nature remains the primary attraction rather than commercial amenities.

The location also serves as a gateway to exploring the greater Sierra Nevada region, with charming mountain towns, additional lakes, and countless trails within reasonable driving distance. First-time visitors are often amazed by how quickly they disconnect from the outside world and reconnect with what matters most.

Great campground. We stayed in site 1. The site was very spacious with partial shade and not to far from the restroom or trash. The traffic noise was minimal even though hwy 4 is so close. The camp hosts were very welcoming and knowledgeable about the area. The only downside of this campground was NO BEAR BOXES. But, the boxes might installed soon.🤞

Beautifully "basic plus". Foresty sites with picnic tablea and bear bins with the extras being clean flush toilets and lovely hosts.

The one star I have rated is for two reasons. One, I need to because it’s the only way I can write my review. Two, the spot was absolutely beautiful, the stars, the lake, the trees. Two, the spot was absolutely beautiful, the stars, the lake, the trees. I love the nature aspect of it. However, the hosts of the campground were terrible. Yes, my family and I are a pretty huge group of diverse people. However, that doesn’t mean the hosts needed to check on us literally twice in an hour to remind us of the rules that we were following, or have someone come through our campsite to clean up like we were little kids. We are all grown and left the place looking like it did when we arrived. My family and I felt harassed with the constant contact we had to have with the hosts, rangers, and sheriffs who kept showing up to tell us to quiet down. Nearly half my family ended up leaving during the evening time because they felt that uncomfortable. Like I said, my family and I are a big group, but we are in the forest where noises aren’t as loud when you are only a couple feet away. When being at the bathroom which is about 20-30 feet away, you cannot not even hear us conversing. Camping here was the most horrible camping experience my family and I ever had. I’m glad that it’s not because of the location because I LOVE being in nature. I also do appreciate that they gave us a warning about the their policies around smoking weed because we didn’t know otherwise. So, do not come here if you are a weed smoker and plan on smoking. LONG STORY KINDA SHORT: The hosts were terrible hosts and my family and I are not ever coming back nor recommending this campground to anyone else. If you are planning to camp with a big group of diverse people, don’t come here. If you are white, please feel free and openly enjoy because you will not get constantly bombarded and reminded of the rules 🙃
