About Mount Rose Campground

Campground in California.

Mount Rose Campground offers a genuine escape into California's natural splendor, nestled in a setting where towering pines frame your daily view and the crisp mountain air fills your lungs each morning. This National Forest campground provides the kind of peaceful retreat that RV travelers seek when they want to disconnect from the bustling world while still enjoying reliable facilities and the comforts of their home on wheels.

The campground sits at an elevation that brings cooler temperatures, making it an ideal destination during warmer months when lower-elevation parks become uncomfortably hot. The surrounding landscape showcases the Sierra Nevada's rugged beauty, with dense forest coverage that creates natural shade throughout the day. Walking trails radiate from the campground area, offering opportunities to explore alpine meadows, discover native wildflowers during peak season, and encounter the diverse wildlife that calls this region home. Birdwatchers will find plenty to appreciate, as various species thrive in this mountain habitat.

Location-wise, Mount Rose Campground provides excellent access to some of Northern California's most celebrated outdoor destinations. The proximity to alpine lakes makes fishing a popular activity for guests, with several productive waters within reasonable driving distance. The area attracts hikers of all skill levels, from those seeking gentle nature walks to experienced mountaineers tackling more challenging peaks. Winter transforms the landscape into a snow-covered wonderland, though the campground typically operates seasonally, making it perfect for late spring through early fall camping.

The campground appeals to families looking for a wholesome outdoor experience, couples seeking a romantic retreat surrounded by nature, and serious outdoor enthusiasts who want a base camp for exploring the Sierra Nevada region. The National Forest setting means you'll experience camping in a more natural state, with an authentic mountain atmosphere that resonates with travelers seeking genuine connection to the landscape rather than commercial resort amenities. The 4.6-star rating from previous visitors speaks to the quality of the experience and the reliable management that keeps this destination popular year after year.

$32/night cash or check (self pay) in September 2025. Nice sandy tent pad, decent size driveways for van or car camping, fire pit, grill, picnic table, auxiliary table. No fire ban at this time. Just a short drive from reno. It's a beautiful campground. Most spots you are able to reserve. A hand full are first come first grab. But they fill up quick. I lucked out and got one. Nice campground. We got a site with a great view. The sites are a decent size and not too close together. I'm glad we stayed here.

This campground is absolutely incredible. We loved staying here. It is very well kept. The hosts are very kind. There is firewood available for sale. There is a loop trail close by and the views are absolutely AMAZING. There are information boards around the trail. It was very educational for us and our son. The campground is dog friendly. We can't wait to come back!

They said they had our spot for us we drove 2 hours to get there to only be told by d9me wierd camp host that gave the girls the Willie's that he just gave out spot away 5 minutes prior. We could go look and if he hadn't set up camp we could before he did . Needless to say the guy was set up and we had made the trip for nothing.
