About Trumbull Lake Campground

Campground in California.

Nestled in the heart of California's Sierra Nevada region, Trumbull Lake Campground offers RV travelers an authentic mountain camping experience surrounded by pristine natural beauty. This National Forest campground provides the perfect base for exploring one of California's most spectacular high-altitude lake destinations, where crystal-clear waters reflect towering pine forests and granite peaks.

The campground's location puts you in the heart of outdoor recreation territory. Trumbull Lake itself is the main attraction, offering excellent opportunities for fishing, boating, and swimming during the warmer months. The lake's pristine waters are home to healthy populations of trout, making it a favorite destination for anglers of all skill levels. Even if fishing isn't your focus, the scenic beauty of the lake provides endless opportunities for photography, picnicking, and peaceful contemplation. The surrounding trails offer hiking options ranging from easy lakeside walks to more challenging alpine adventures, allowing visitors of all ages and fitness levels to explore the area.

Being situated in a National Forest setting means you're surrounded by the raw, undeveloped beauty that makes California's mountain regions so special. The towering conifers provide natural shade and shelter, while the elevation offers relief from summer heat found in lower elevations. Clear nights reveal spectacular stargazing opportunities, with minimal light pollution allowing visitors to experience the Milky Way in all its glory.

The area appeals to a wide range of travelers. Families appreciate the safe, manageable environment and variety of activities suitable for children. Fishing enthusiasts find excellent angling prospects. Nature lovers and photographers are drawn to the stunning landscapes and wildlife viewing opportunities. Retirees enjoy the peaceful atmosphere and moderate activity options. Those seeking to escape crowds and experience genuine wilderness camping will find Trumbull Lake Campground delivers an authentic mountain retreat experience that captures the essence of California's high country.

The elevation and mountain setting mean you should come prepared for cooler temperatures, especially in shoulder seasons and evenings, but this is part of the charm for many visitors seeking refuge from summer heat.

Great location with lots of hiking to lakes. The sites are decent sized but in general, the sites near the water are smaller. Lots of fishing. The resort near by has a store/restaurant with decent food (veggie options) and $5 showers. Mono lake is close for a sunrise walk. Camp host was wonderful, restrooms were clean and the campground was nicely kept.

We spent 4 nights here and had a wonderful time! Very peaceful and plenty of wildlife to view. The fish were not biting, but still a lot of fun. We also visited the Travertine Hot Springs and made a day trip up to Bridgeport, great time all the way around.

Decent campground, but be prepared for the high altitude and the mosquito's. If you are not use to being at higher altitudes camping at over 9,500ft can present some challenges and give you headaches. We went in late June 2020 and the mosquito's were out in force, I was told that in July and August they taper off. Campground was clean and relatively quiet. There have pit toilets and running water... Decent campground, but be prepared for the high altitude and the mosquito's. My husband and I LOVE this campground! -I actually went camping here as a little kid so I have such great memories. The freshest and cleanest air you could ask for! And the stars at night are SO gorgeous from here! The campground is clean, has bathrooms and dumpsters as well as bear boxes.
