About Lake Olancha RV Park & Campground

Campground in California.

Lake Olancha RV Park & Campground sits in the heart of California's Eastern Sierra region, offering a genuine escape into the high desert landscape where wide open skies meet distant mountain peaks. Located at 200 State Highway 190 in Olancha, this destination captures the raw beauty of one of California's most dramatic natural settings, situated between the Sierra Nevada mountains to the west and the Inyo Range to the east.

The Olancha area has long been a hidden gem for travelers seeking authenticity and natural beauty without the crowds of more commercialized destinations. This region sits at an elevation that offers comfortable temperatures for much of the year, making it ideal for extended stays or quick overnight stops along Highway 190. The landscape here tells geological stories spanning millions of years, with visible rock formations and desert flora that change subtly through the seasons. Spring brings wildflower displays, while fall offers crisp, clear air and stunning stargazing opportunities.

For outdoor enthusiasts, the location provides excellent access to some of California's most compelling natural attractions. The nearby Sierra Nevada offers hiking trails ranging from leisurely walks to challenging day hikes with panoramic views. Ancient bristlecone pines, some of Earth's oldest living organisms, can be found in the higher elevations not far from the park. Fishing opportunities exist in the region's lakes and streams for those interested in catching trout or simply enjoying peaceful time by the water.

The park serves as an excellent base for exploring Death Valley National Park, which lies approximately an hour to the southeast. Visitors can experience dramatic sand dunes, colorful badlands, and some of the lowest elevations in North America. The contrasts between the park's elevation and the depths of Death Valley create an unforgettable sense of the region's extreme topography.

History enthusiasts will find the Eastern Sierra rich with stories of Native American heritage, gold rush era mining, and pioneer settlements. The small communities in this area maintain much of their authentic character, offering a glimpse into California's past without modern tourist infrastructure overwhelming the experience.

With a solid 4.6 out of 5 rating from 72 reviews, Lake Olancha RV Park & Campground clearly resonates with travelers who appreciate honest, straightforward RV camping experiences in exceptional natural settings. Whether you're traveling Highway 190 between the Central Valley and Nevada, exploring the Eastern Sierra's outdoor recreation, or seeking a peaceful retreat in the high desert, this location offers the authentic California backcountry experience many travelers seek.

We loved this place. Pretty basic (yes, it’s only a dirt road along a pond) but clean, well maintained and with awesome views. Really enjoyed it here. It was my 80yo mother in laws first ‘camping’ trip in over 65 years, we really enjoyed the atmosphere here. Very clean park, very friendly and helpful operators. If I had to give some criticism it would be that the sites are fairly close to each other. Thanks for a great stay we will be back!

We had the best time there. The place is so beautiful our stay was amazing. The lake is so clear. We stayed an extra night cause we had so much fun. Love how they have electric hook ups at the tent sites. Restroom was very clean. We will be going back again. Thank you for the memories we will have and all the fun we experienced in your park.

This place was exactly as advertised. Each tent site has available power and a water bathroom with a shower sink and toilet. Read a lot of reviews about Nacho and staff’s hospitality and they were totally right. I will absolutely be back for another rest, relaxation, and, refit away from the daily grind. I can’t see how anyone can leave disappointed. Tent sites 1-6 are right in the water with the... This place was exactly as advertised.
