Located in the East County area, this resort provides easy access to the greater San Diego metropolitan area while maintaining a more relaxed, suburban atmosphere than downtown accommodations.

La Mesa itself is a charming community known as the "Jewel of the Hills," situated at a pleasant elevation that offers mild year-round weather. The area features a walkable downtown district with local shops, restaurants, and galleries that reflect the community's welcoming character. Whether you're interested in exploring nearby hiking trails in the foothills or enjoying the temperate climate, La Mesa serves as an excellent launching point for your California adventures.

San Diego's renowned zoo and safari park attract visitors from around the globe and make for excellent day trips. Downtown San Diego's historic Gaslamp Quarter provides cultural experiences, dining, and entertainment options that reflect the city's rich heritage.

The area around La Mesa also offers natural attractions for outdoor enthusiasts. Lake Murray provides opportunities for fishing and peaceful waterside moments, while several regional parks offer hiking trails with scenic vistas of the surrounding landscape. The region's elevation provides relief from coastal fog on many days, meaning you can often enjoy clear skies and excellent visibility.

For those interested in history and culture, San Diego offers numerous museums, mission sites, and cultural institutions. The city's Mexican heritage is deeply woven into its character, influencing everything from architecture to cuisine. I noticed some reviews mentioning traffic noise, but the resort is right next to the highway, so that’s pretty expected. We did hear some traffic at night, but it wasn’t enough to bother us. I had requested a site farther from the freeway, but we ended up right by it. That said, we booked using a Black Friday deal with a solid discount, so I’m assuming that’s why and I don’t have any real complaints about it. The property itself was great — clean, well maintained, and comfortable. Our neighbors were quiet and respectful, and having direct access to the trolley was a huge bonus and made getting around very easy. The only downside was one time when I needed assistance. I couldn’t find the gate code, tried calling customer service multiple times during normal business hours, left a voicemail, and never heard back. Because of that, I’m giving it 4 stars. Aside from that, it was a great stay and I would definitely stay here again.

The functions that the staff would have from waffles and mimosas to the holiday events is so much fun. Basically if RVing into SD. This is you place. Cannot be beat.
