About Russian Gulch State Park Campground

Campground in California.

Nestled along California's rugged Mendocino Coast, Russian Gulch State Park Campground offers RV travelers an extraordinary escape into one of the Pacific Coast's most dramatic landscapes. This exceptional destination combines coastal beauty, old-growth redwood forests, and pristine natural features that make it a favorite among those seeking authentic California wilderness experiences.

The campground sits perfectly positioned to explore the Mendocino Coast's most iconic attractions. From your RV site, you're just minutes away from charming coastal towns filled with galleries, restaurants, and local shops that capture the character of Northern California. The nearby town of Mendocino itself feels frozen in time, with Victorian architecture and sweeping ocean vistas that have made it a beloved filming location for decades. Exploring these communities by day and returning to your peaceful forest campsite creates an ideal balance of adventure and relaxation.

Russian Gulch's crown jewel is the stunning 36-foot waterfall that cascades into a hidden cove, accessible via scenic hiking trails that wind through old-growth redwood groves. The dramatic bluffs and tide pools along the coastline offer endless opportunities for exploration and photography. Whether you're an avid hiker, a casual nature walker, or someone who simply wants to breathe in the fresh ocean air, the park's varied terrain accommodates all activity levels.

The park's location provides access to some of California's most beautiful coastal drives. Traveling south along Highway 1, you'll encounter breathtaking viewpoints, secluded beaches, and charming coastal villages. Wildlife enthusiasts often spot migrating gray whales during season, sea otters in the coves, and diverse bird species throughout the park.

This campground appeals to families seeking outdoor education, couples looking for romantic coastal getaways, and experienced RVers who appreciate well-maintained facilities in spectacular settings. The combination of accessible amenities, natural beauty, and proximity to cultural attractions makes Russian Gulch State Park Campground an unforgettable RV destination. Here, you'll find the perfect blend of comfort and adventure on one of America's most magnificent coastlines.

Did the waterfall hike. Most of the path was extremely walkable, like paved or packed earth. The area was mossy and lush. There are several spots arms the waterfall where people can hang out. This is one of the best hikes I’ve ever done. :)

Quiet and easy-to-reach park with beautiful views of the Pacific. The trails here are all relatively short and easy, making it a perfect spot for a peaceful coastal walk or a quick nature break. We even spotted some seals along the shoreline

A must-see place! The trail is great for walking, surrounded by beautiful nature that’s hard to put into words. If you’re reading this review, don’t wait , this is truly one of the best places to visit. Just a heads-up: there’s no cell phone coverage in the area, so make sure you bring the necessary hiking gear. The daily entrance fee is $10, and in return, you’ll get to experience pure wilderness... A must-see place! Absolutely magical! I think this was the most beautiful trail I've ever hiked. 6.2 mile fern trail loop took us about 4 hours at a leisurely pace stopping for a picnic lunch at the waterfalls. The towering redwoods, lush plant life, and beautiful river made it so worth it. There were some muddy portions of the trail, so wear good boots, but otherwise easy to navigate. I can't wait to return!

Always a pleasure camping there. A cool stream runs through the park and each site wasn't very close to others so you get a sense of being alone in the redwood forest especially late at night. Public bathrooms were clean. I'm in a wheelchair now but can walk a bit with my walker so I got to explore the trails and the beach going below a beautiful bridge of Hwy 1 and just loved it. When the tide is low there are lots of little tide pools to check out. Really very cool.
