We visited Great Sand Dunes National Park during the off-season (December) and searched everywhere for open RV campgrounds. We visited Great Sand Dunes National Park during the off-season (December) and searched everywhere for open RV campgrounds. Options were very limited given the time of year, but Base Camp was open—and we’re so glad it was. We called ahead and spoke with Josh, who was fantastic. He answered all of our questions, asked about our site preferences, and set us up perfectly. The RV sites were extremely large pull-throughs, making arrival and departure easy, and we had plenty of space for our RV, an extra vehicle, and still room to move around comfortably. Since the national park doesn’t rent sand sleds, Base Camp offers sand sled and board rentals. They have both kid and adult sizes and will deliver them directly to your RV site and pick them up at the end of the day. The sand sleds were excellent—wooden with slick bottoms. While at the park, we saw several people using plastic sleds that didn’t get nearly the speed or distance we were able to get with ours. Base Camp also has large, private bathrooms and showers, a small coin-operated laundry, and a vending machine—which was especially nice since energy drinks may be necessary and there isn’t much else nearby. Both the camp host and Josh were very responsive to any questions we had. For being off-season, when many places cut back, Base Camp didn’t miss a beat. Highly recommend.

We loved out short stay here! They were able to accommodate us quickly and let us choose our perfect spot. The lots are huge! Plenty of space. Location is between the BLM land/Great sand dunes nat’l park and downtown Alamosa. Very cozy, great pricing! We will be back the next time we visit the Valley!

This was our first time at the Base Camp, and we WILL be back. The rest/shower rooms were immaculate! Much cleaner and more roomy than other campgrounds. The super-wide sites were a welcome change too! Even thought the camp was quite full, we didn’t hear hardly anyone else for the duration of our stay. Thanks for having a great place to be!

Our experience was similar to other positive reviews. Perfect base camp for the area. No frills, but the friendly staff does an excellent maintenance job. Good communication from host regarding check in details, maintenance, and a brief power outage during our stay. Definitely recommend!

Great spot when traveling thru Colorado and near Great Sand Dunes NP. Sites are large with lots of space between each camper. Host was very helpful during our stay. Facilities are very clean as well. Close to Alamosa and what the twin has to offer is an added plus.
