The Fruita Paleo Area offers RV campers a unique gateway to one of Colorado's most fascinating geological and paleontological destinations. Located in western Colorado near the town of Palisade, this public campground serves as an ideal base for exploring the remarkable badlands and fossil-rich landscapes that have made this region legendary among dinosaur enthusiasts and geology buffs alike.

The camping experience here is distinctly Colorado, with high desert terrain that showcases stunning rock formations in shades of rust, gold, and deep red. The area around Fruita has earned international recognition for its abundant dinosaur fossils and paleontological significance. What makes this location truly special is the direct access to some of the most productive fossil beds in North America. Visitors can explore trails that wind through layers of Cretaceous rock, offering glimpses into a world that existed millions of years ago. The landscape itself becomes part of your camping adventure, with dramatic cliffs and colorful geological formations creating a constantly changing backdrop throughout the day.

Beyond the paleontological attractions, the region offers diverse outdoor recreational opportunities. The nearby Colorado River provides scenic beauty and outdoor pursuits, while hiking trails of varying difficulty levels allow campers to explore the unique terrain on foot. The surrounding area features several museums and interpretive centers dedicated to the region's fossil heritage, making this an excellent destination for families interested in natural history and science education.

The high desert climate means comfortable temperatures during much of the year, though summer visitors should prepare for hot daytime temperatures and cool evenings. The clear night skies are another highlight, offering exceptional stargazing opportunities far from city lights. This location appeals particularly to travelers seeking educational camping experiences, families with curious minds, geology enthusiasts, and anyone interested in connecting with the natural history of the American West. The last one at the end on top is hottest. Your welcome. Grass area for kiddos with games you can get from the office. Small playground for little ones. My grandson spent a little time playing and enjoyed it! We’ve never stayed here and pulled in about 7:30. They had 2 spots left so we snagged one. We are traveling cross country and just stopped to sleep and hang for a bit . Not doing tourist stuff in the area. Got the kids and ourselves all dressed for the pool because across all the states the time is usually 10pm pool close time. and when we got there it said 7pm and after is for adults only. They have adult only RV resorts for that. This is a family friendly place and some people drive in later. That’s not cool. I’ve never seen that before and was really bummed because we always choose places with pools. .kids have a long day on the road and this is something they look forward to. Jacuzzi was a little dirty. There was some country concert in town I guess. Staff was nice. My son set his scooter to 5 mph like the sign said and some old lady yelled at him to slow down. We were right there. That’s unnecessary. lol some people…… I think if you don’t like kids you stay at an adult only place because we were obeying the rules and there was no need to be like that. That’s what seems better. Mosquitoes were horrendous. The morning time was quiet and I loved the sunrise. Overall nice stay because anywhere you go. there are people and well….. people are people. 😊 a mix of nice and not. Life is beautiful 😍

Liquor store, Ice house water dispenser, and a bunch of fast food options a 5 minute walk away. Only con I can think of is that the spaces are a bit too narrow, but why stay inside when there's so much to do? Very nice little hot tub to end a day of adventure. My favorite park by a mile, I stay here as much as I can. Update: still great, another amenity they offer is propane refills, and if you put your empty by the road someone will pick it up in the morning and return it full and charge it to your account (I recommend attaching a tip). They also are happy to receive mail and packages in the office for you. I would also mention again that the staff work very hard and keep the park very clean! I'm at the park again and loving it.

This is a great place to stay when visiting the Colorado National Monument. However, the sites are very narrow and face to face. However, the sites are very narrow and face to face. If we had wanted to sit at our picnic table, we would have been rubbing elbows with our neighbors. There are two laundry rooms which were clean and well maintained. There was some construction going on but it didn’t bother us. It had rained before we arrived and a number of the units had water pooling underneath which would have troubled me. It did soak in within a day. The pool was not as yet open and we were told that the hot tub, which was not as yet open, would most likely not be opened at all. Another advantage to this location is the DQ located next door to the site.

Awesome RV park! Nice level spots with good hookups. Friendly and helpful staff. They have the cleanest bathrooms I have seen on the road. It's in a great location too. There is a state park across the street, a dinosaur museum, and lots of stores and places to eat in walking distance. You must try Munchies nearby. I will definitely stay here again when I'm in the area. Don't forget to go see the... Awesome RV park! Nice level spots with good hookups. Friendly and helpful staff. Nicely level gravel sites, plenty of restroom and laundry locations and friendly staff. This city, along with Grand Junction, 12 miles away, are gateways to the Colorado National Monument…a definite must see!
