Awesome spot to park and take it all in. 3 mile drive on a rough road to the lake. Not a road for cars. Went in mid-September and had the place all to ourselves. Road becomes all rock any way narrower around the lake. Narrow off-road vehicle after that point. 4 miles past the lake to Tim Cup pass. Like being on the top of the world. Worth it without a doubt. As of 9/20/24, the Aspens are near peak, which are scattered around the mountains at the lake.

I'm a Colorado native and have been coming to this site for as long as I can remember, and have always loved it. But lately it's just being over run! It's no longer quiet. Just to share my connection to the area, my great uncle, along with the original owner of the Taylor Park trade store (who, as far as I know, their family still runs it) forged Cottonwood Pass.

Beautiful lake!! We ATV’d to this lake and it was a breath of fresh air to see. The silence of city life and graceful touch of natures pure sound was blissfully peaceful!

You need to have a high-clearance 4wd truck or SUV to make it up here... Or a Subaru and balls of steel. Instead, the campground is just to the north of the lake. The lake is no longer mirrory... At least, it is much deeper than it used to be, and it is very windy throughout the day and night, so the surface is rarely still. Also, there is not a trail that goes all the way around the lake. The only relatively safe trail is on the east side of the lake, above where the road is submerged. There used to be a trail around the lake, but avalanches and rock slides have made the West side of the lake impassible (save for those whole are ultra foolhardy and hopefully prepared for steep slopes and trail-blazing around fallen trees... I very well could have ended up a SAR story). The fishing here seems to be great, and the 10 campsites have excellent fire pits, and are relatively private from each other.
