About Washington Gulch #403

The Washington Gulch Trail #403 begins a quarter mile north of the Gothic Campground and ends when it intersects the Washington Gulch Road, FSR #811.  The heads southeast with a few switchbacks and then parallels Rock Creek for approximately 1.5 miles.  It then crosses the creek, turns south, and begins to climb in elevation.  It comes to an end at Washington Gulch Road.  This is a very scenic trail and makes a great day hike.  It is also very popular with mountain bikers.

Washington Gulch offers a genuine Colorado mountain camping experience in the heart of the state's scenic terrain. This public campground provides access to some of Colorado's most treasured natural landscapes, making it an ideal base for those seeking authentic Rocky Mountain adventures away from commercial development.

The location puts you in close proximity to some of Colorado's most spectacular outdoor recreation opportunities. The surrounding area is characterized by pristine wilderness, dramatic mountain vistas, and abundant opportunities for hiking, fishing, and wildlife viewing. The gulch itself features the kind of scenic beauty that defines Colorado's mountain character, with towering peaks, dense forest, and the soothing presence of natural waterways nearby.

What makes this area particularly special is its relatively undeveloped character. Rather than elaborate resort-style amenities, Washington Gulch offers the authentic camping experience many RV travelers seek. You'll find yourself immersed in Colorado's natural beauty with direct access to trail systems and outdoor exploration. The elevation and mountain setting provide cool, refreshing air and clear night skies that are increasingly rare in more developed areas.

The region attracts visitors interested in genuine mountain exploration. Photographers find endless subjects in the dramatic landscape and changing light. Hikers appreciate the extensive trail networks that crisscross the surrounding mountains and valleys. Fishing enthusiasts can pursue trout in nearby streams. Wildlife photographers and nature observers frequently spot elk, deer, and various bird species throughout the area.

The camping experience here is straightforward and unpretentious. Whether you're in a motorhome, travel trailer, or fifth wheel, you'll find yourself surrounded by fellow travelers who appreciate Colorado's natural character. The cooler mountain temperatures make this a particularly appealing summer destination for those looking to escape heat in lower elevations.

This location suits independent travelers, nature enthusiasts, outdoor adventurers, and anyone seeking to experience Colorado's mountain wilderness in a more authentic, less commercialized setting. It's the kind of place where the landscape itself is the primary attraction.
