Palisade is popular during peak season. Reserve 2-4 weeks in advance for weekends and holidays.
Most parks have check-in after 1:00 PM and check-out by 11:00 AM. Call ahead if you'll arrive late.
Colorado weather can change quickly. Pack layers and check the forecast for Palisade.
Don't miss local attractions near Palisade. Ask the camp host for hidden gems and trails.

Simply one of the most beautiful campgrounds I've ever visited. There's a wonderful creek flowing through the middle of it, surrounded by beautiful hills to hike. The only issue I had were the bathrooms were very bad. I doubt they've been cleaned in six months. You could smell them three campsites away.

Overall, great experience for us. Seems there's some bad reviews that had me worried, but none of the concerns others raised showed up at all. There's even a one star review from someone simply because they saw other reviews but never stayed...seems fishy to me? We stayed three nights as the last leg of our Garden of the Gods - Pikes Peak - Cliff Dwellings and finally Rocky Mountain National Park... Overall, great experience for us. There's even a one star review from someone simply because they saw other reviews but never stayed...seems fishy to me? We stayed three nights as the last leg of our Garden of the Gods - Pikes Peak - Cliff Dwellings and finally Rocky Mountain National Park trip. When we pulled in, it was a few minute wait for someone in a golf cart to bring us to our site. Very pleasant experience where they guided us in, made sure we knew which hook ups were ours and explained where our site extended to. Some may want to be left alone when they park, by I've seen plenty of people open slides into electrical boxes to not be bothered by them wanting this. They also gave us recommendations on some food options and reminded us not to forget to visit the park (seems there's some that make it that far and don't get to the park?!?). Site is good size for location. Not massive sites, but certainly large enough to park our RV and rental jeep next to it. Picnic table behind the jeep. Full hook ups with water, electrical and sewer. Our electrical was only 30amp, but that worked for us. Larger park, crushed granite pad sites and drives which is standard for most of Colorado. A nice little fishing lake (we didn't use), a mini-golf 18 hole set up (we walked around it but didn't use) and a small fenced in area for dogs. Bathrooms were very clean and centrally located. Our kids loved the little playground although at their age they'd be happy with a dirt field to be honest. Was really surprised to see some wildlife right in the park around the RV's. Large herd walked in first thing in the morning, eating grass, and walked right through to the small stream next to it. They actually came right up to the RV window. This was only one of the three mornings we were there. Location is only a 10 minutes away from downtown as well as the Park entrance. We did both. Timed entry to the park between 9-2 so plan to get in before or pre book your entry. The more popular areas of the park are 5am-4pm timed entry so again, be prepared and pre plan. Downtown is a fun little visit although it's mostly shops. I'd recommend 'The Slab' which was outdoor seating, beer, lawn games and live music when we were there. I'd also recommend Ed's Cantina which had Avocado Margaritas. Never had one until then but very much worth the try. Nice enough place that we asked to extend from originally planned two nights to three while we were there. When we called from the national park they didn't immediately pick up, but they called us back. They were very friendly and accommodating when we asked for the extra night and told us we could stay as long as we like. Would recommend to anyone looking for someonere if they weren't able to get into the national park itself.

*Update: we have heard back from the campground owners, who refunded our money and assured us they’d be making things right on their end as well. They had apparently received other complaints from campers that weekend. They had apparently received other complaints from campers that weekend. If Josh, the camp host, is no longer at the site, my rating would go up to a 4+ star considering everything else besides the experience with the camp host was good.* If I could give 0 stars I would. My family of 6 (my husband, myself, and our 4 kids, ages ranging from 9 to 4 month) booked campground for 2 nights, and paid for an extra car since my husband would be arriving later than the rest us with the camper. I will say that the first 30-ish hours of our stay were pleasant. The first afternoon was rainy, but we enjoyed our time inside our camper eating, play card games and watching a movie. The next day was also nice. We walked on some of the trails, which were very lovely, the kids played, and we ended the evening with a campfire and s’mores. At 10pm we were startled by a loud knock on our camper door. A man, who didn’t introduce himself, was holding a beer, slurring his words, and telling us we needed to move our vehicle. My husband was able to get out of him that he was the campsite host (I believe he said his name was Josh). My husband explained that we paid for the extra vehicle but said he’d move it and inquired if there was a specific spot he should move it to (mind you our car had been parked in the same spot for roughly 30 hours at this point). The man would not offer any answers but instead went on a rant about how he is a Marine veteran and that somehow we were disrespecting him, while walking over and taking photos of our car. This was a confusing statement as my husband is a disabled veteran as well, as he could see from our DV plates he was photographing. It seemed irrelevant to the situation and yet somehow something he thought we needed to be aware of. My husband moved the car, the man said, “thank you” and we said, “have a good night” and laid back down to get some sleep. Not 5 minutes later there was another knock at our camper door. My husband answered to find the camp host yet again. This time he had an even more confrontational tone and was asking my husband questions like what his MOS in the military, as if he doubted my husband’s service. He was being very belligerent and drunk. We asked him to please leave as our 4 young children were scared and trying to sleep. He refused. I asked him if he would please tell us what we could do to get him to leave and if we needed to just pack up and go. I’m still unclear about what the point of the 2nd visit from him was. He eventually just left, but we were so rattled that we immediately packed up the camper and kids and drove the 1.5 hours home at 10:20pm. I have never felt so unsafe while camping. It was a very uncomfortable situation especially with him being clearly intoxicated. We will not recommend this campground to anyone.

The river is great to swim and walk in and the views are fantastic.
