About Ramble at Great Sand Dunes

Ramble at Great Sand Dunes is definitely going to be your new basecamp. The location is beautiful and vast: 320-acres of rolling sand dunes nestled up against the Sangre De Cristo Mountain range. Designed with the natural flow of the existing terrain and

Nestled in the San Luis Valley of south-central Colorado, Ramble at Great Sand Dunes offers RV travelers an extraordinary gateway to one of America's most unique natural landscapes. Located just minutes from Great Sand Dunes National Park, this private RV park provides the perfect base camp for exploring towering sand formations that rise dramatically against the backdrop of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains.

The Great Sand Dunes region is a place of remarkable contrasts and natural wonder. Visitors find themselves in a high-altitude desert environment where massive dunes stretch across the valley floor, creating an otherworldly landscape that feels almost like another planet. Whether you're interested in hiking up the dunes, sandboarding down their slopes, or simply taking in the vast vistas, the proximity to the national park from your RV makes spontaneous adventures incredibly convenient. The dunes are particularly magical at sunrise and sunset, when the light transforms the sand into shades of gold and crimson.

Beyond the dunes themselves, the San Luis Valley offers rich cultural heritage and outdoor recreation opportunities. The region is home to charming small towns with authentic Colorado character, local history museums, and genuine mountain hospitality. Visitors appreciate the solitude and space that this part of Colorado provides, along with the chance to disconnect from everyday life and reconnect with nature. The elevation and clear skies make this an excellent location for stargazing, as light pollution is minimal in this remote area.

The Mosca area serves as a quiet, accessible community hub near the park. This is ideal RV camping territory for families seeking adventure, couples looking for peaceful natural scenery, photographers chasing golden hour light on dramatic landscapes, and anyone craving authentic Colorado mountain experiences away from crowded tourist destinations. The combination of accessibility, natural beauty, and the chance to explore one of Colorado's crown jewels makes this location special for RV travelers of all kinds.

Our group had a wonderful time camping at Ramble. We had a Signature Plus site and it was perfect for a group of 7. The playground and hiking trail were a hit with our kids - they didn’t want to leave! We typically do dispersed camping, so this was such a treat. We are already thinking about going back or trying another location!

Rolled into Ramble on my motorcycle this past weekend and all I can say is what a fantastic place. The accommodations and amenities are top notch, feeling like it is run more like an outdoor hotel than a campground. The staff are friendly and attentive, with camp host Adam even making rounds to personally welcome guests and make an introduction. I particularly like how the campground is designed in such a way to put some space between the campsites, my closest neighbor being about 130 feet away. Traveling on motorcycle usually means having just the essentials so my "Adventure" camp site was awesome, having a canvas shelter with a straw rug floor, a table, and four nice camp chairs. The nice 12x12 tent pad was even raked out like a zen garden. A gas grill meant I got to have a ribeye for dinner rather than some reconstituted meal out of a bag. Having self serve facilities for snacks and cold drinks, fire wood, e-bike rentals, and other necessities was very nice. Best funny moment was going to what appeared to be a port-o-john only to open the door and reveal a fully functional bathroom with normal porcelain toilet and sink. Got to finish out my evening reading my kindle while enjoying an ice cream sandwich next to the Solo Stove fire pit. I like camping in the woods under austere conditions, but it is awfully nice to pamper yourself occasionally.

My kids loved the playground area and the rentals (sandboard and sandsled) Close enough to town & the national park but far enough out to make you feel like you’re in a dream… The stars at night were brilliant. you will not regret camping at this site. Ramble: amazing, thanks for an unforgettable family experience. ✨

I had never been to a contactless campground before and it was a really great experience! This campground is located in a beautiful area with great views and it was very easy to navigate. Even the smallest camp spots had a nice camp kitchen with everything you need and the bathrooms were clean and well maintained.
